I'm a male but I'd like to say that if you are that one guy, you know who you are, you're that one guy that seems to be on every multiplayer server capable of voice chat. I'd like to ask you, can you please stop telling every girl that logs on that they "have a nice voice."

Jesus Christ with a shotgun, you aren't even talking to me and you're even creeping me the hell out. I can't imagine how bad it must be for the girl on the receiving end of that.

Ugh, that line makes my skin crawl every time, so please stop using it.
*shudder*

It reminds me of that "you got a pretty mouth" line from that movie.

I'm male, but I once pretended to be a female pretending to be male if that counts.
A gender-identity within a gender identity?

Yes, I have. Pretty often too.
The only sites/games/ect I set my gender as female on are ones where the majority of people are female (like Gaia Online) or one where I've been lurking for awhile before I make an account so I know the members aren't sexist for the most part (like this site).
When playing games online which don't require my gender I almost never correct people when they refer to me as a 'he'. Also the reason why I've been wanting to get a headset for games for years now but never done so because I'm scared people will harrass me for being a girl... >.<

I won't lie if someone outward asks me about my gender. If they start acting like douches after that I blacklist them. Prime example would be someone I had quested with for a while in an MMO. He could actually be helpfull and work in a team, but the moment he realized he's dealing with a girl his next question was: "What's your cupsize?" Me: "...Why in hell would I tell you that?" "C'mon, I want to know!!!" Me:"*sigh* Say hello to my blacklist"

I don't correct people if they refer to me as male, though. It led to an interesting situation in a clan where there were several guys with female alts and we got to a guessing game of who actually is female. I was everyone's least likely candidate 8/

I've never used a mic online but it's not because I fear harassment. I just know I make these distracting sounds. Nobody needs to hear my cat purr right in the mic when it gets sick for attention. Or me mimicking Jockey's giggle while playing as one.

Sure. Just to get away from the annoying harassment. And the messages. Get away from me, you creeps.

So I just pick a guy avatar sometimes.

That's the short story.
God, I can't imagine how bad some of the messages must get. I mean, who plays games looking for that kind of stuff? Isn't it supposed to be about blowing off some steam in a relaxed setting?

And on a completely unrelated note, your avatar made me laugh when I saw it.
It can get this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRkao-gyZC0] bad.

:/
Wait, is that you in that video?

Hell I'm doing it right now with my Escapist profile. Not because I'm ashamed or don't want anyone to know I'm female; it started as a joke with my friends so now I just use this name!

I don?t advertise the fact that I?m a girl, but I don?t hide it either. More than a decade online has taught me a few harsh lessons, the main one being; If you don?t want to be approached, then don?t be accessible.

It?s actually a tough thing to master, giving off that vibe. Especially in a social setting like WoW, where almost all raiding guilds require ventrilo.

You can be friendly and nice and still have that line drawn in the sand, though there are idiots who will flat out ignore all of the ?I?m not interested? messages right up to the point of you actually reporting them for harassment.

Mostly I just continue on doing my thing, make it clear that I?m not available when guys ask (doing a fair chunk of my gaming with my partner by my side is a pretty good deterrent) and if some new boy asks ?OMG are you a GIRL!?? over vent I just tell them I?m a guy with a very girly voice. *shrug*

It sucks that girls can't sometimes play online games without something like this or similar happening. That video was just kind of pathetic and sad--poor girl.

Before I changed my Xbox gamertag, I had a pretty neutral name (I forgot it), and I played on Halo 2's free-for-all, but with pink armor and a heart emblem. After that, I got two messages from two games that I played. They were both asking where I was from and how old I was--I told them that I was an 18-year-old male (which I am at the time).

Sometimes I just want to punch these people in the face.
