It's essentially a meaningless expletive. Like 'fuck' but with no other meaning.
I don't use it. It doesn't sound snappy enough.

Oh, like saying "ford" in Douglas Adam's books. Nope, I don't use either. However, I do say "fuck", a lot.

I don't,although maybe now I should. Kudos for the sheerly esoteric nature of the post though. And as to what it means, it's a reference to a pre-imperial pagan woodgod native to the now destroyed world of Tanith. It can be expanded to sacred feth, it's a good combination of both fuck and shit and can be used as either interchangeable, such as calling someone a "fether" or, as when the Archenemy's stalk tanks are rushing your position and you say "oh, feth".

And as to the OP only having read to Sabbat Martyr, come on mang, seriously you're omnibi behind the loop. Barely anyone has died by the time of Sabbat Martyr.

Feth doesn't sound snappy enough like fuck. It rhymes with meth and saying that is an ass.

FETH YEAH

I fucking love those books.

Slash, I read the first omnibus, and am currently borrowing the other two off a mate.

Feth doesn't sound like a good swear word though. It's too smooth and not nearly aggressive enough.
But no, I do not use it, nor do I know anyone who does.

A friend of mine is a big 40K buff, she's used it often and it's kind of rubbed off onto me (hey, anything that lets you swear without technically swearing while referencing something you like is a win win in my book...like smeg!).
...while not really classed as a swear word "smeg" isn't exactly polite. It isn't made up, it's a shortening of smegma. Look it up.

OT, no I don't use it and I am pretty sure it's just a way of saying fuck without actually doing so.

I'm reading the Saint right now. But I have never ever heard anyone say Feth...just fuck; there really is no reason to replace it in real life.

Edit: Tanith First and Only!

it's a fuck replacement. like Farscape's frell and Galactica's frak.
I'm gonna be really pedantic but in one of the books it was actually explained that feth isn't a replacement for fuck. I think it's in Ghostmaker (someone correct me if I'm wrong) where an Inquisitor is questioning Gaunt and he uses the word feth. She thinks along the lines of feth being a fuck replacement, putting images of the pair of them getting steamy in Gaunts head. He sees through it and explains that Feth was actually an ancient forest god/legend on the world of Tanith and was nothing to do with doing the deed. So really it's more akin to saying "Oh God!" or "For Gods sake!".

I haven't used Feth myself but I have been known to use Gak on occasion, which was used by a different regiment and from what I can tell is a replacement for "Shit". That Abbnet and his made up swear words!

I don't think I could even use feth as a replacement, it doesn't have enough bang to it or something. I used to use frag from Shadowrun. Never caught on to frell in Farscape even though I was completely crazy about the show (Yay, Muppets!). I picked up frak after BSG but really when it comes down to it, I say the real word a lot more than I probably should. May have to do with my dad being really strict about cursing or anything close to it when I was growing up. Yea, I would have gotten at least a boring lecture for using any of those words and probably ended up with worse for my attitude during the lecture. >.<

I'm referring to the use of the word in Red Dwarf (a favourite of mine), it was a popular swear word on the show. Here's an example:
