I knew it was out and was going to buy it...until I heard about the type of DRM it has. Thanks to that, I will never buy it.

Was tempted to get it, then I found out that it's exactly the same as the PS1 version, which I already have on my PSP.

15 years and this re-release changes none of the in-game graphics or cutscenes?! Bullshit, just bullshit Square-enix!
But that would be mangling a treasured classic, surely?

(Not actually a fan myself - never managed to play all the way to the end.)

It's so adorable to see people rage about SecuROM, as if the reasons SecuROM got so despised in the first place still existed. Yeah, they unfucked that. It's no longer any different from the DRM layers on Steam, Origin or whatever the fuck else you endure outside of gog.com.
I have heard from people who have bought the game that it has only 3 activations and you can't revoke any of them. That is quite possibly the most intrusive DRM I can think of. I don't want 3 installs then I have to rebuy the game to install it again. Give me 3 installs with the ability to revoke them, making the game unplayable on the computers I revoked them on, and I'll not have a problem.

Yes it does.

The character and enemy models are upgraded and the I think the cutscenes are upgraded.

Not the case. This isn't bloody Spore.
I never played Spore. I guess it did have the DRM style I just mentioned? Anyway, can you please explain how the FF7 DRM actually does work? I admit I have gotten many, wildly different explanations as to the DRM.

You're not the only one who didn't notice...I'd imagine there's plenty like myself who just didn't give a damn. :p

Look, I'm not saying FF7 wasn't a good game, I'm just saying it's not the God's Gift to Man that everyone said it was, and hearing the name "Sephiroth" is not proper grounds for achieving an erection. :p

There's more to FF7 than Sephiroth. There's the ATB system done perfectly, there's the materia system, there's the limit system done perfectly, there's chocobo breeding/racing and finally there's the soundtrack.

Last I checked, there weren't "Materia system fanboys", "Chocobo racing fanboys" (maybe fanatics, but not fanboys), and no "Limit system fanboys". In short: I was making a joke, but to further expand my joke, I'll go ahead and say "Equiping materia and reaching your limit break are not proper grounds for achieving an erection." Happy now?

Again, I had fun with FF7, in my book FF7 was the last truly good FF (not counting the first FFTactis) before Square began it's downward spiral with progessively shittier and shittier games.

It would be nice if they changed something in it. Otherwise I see no reason to buy it. I'm sure lots of people won't buy it because they can just emulate it.
Indeed. I still have my PSX copy, and I found PC emulation to work a lot better than my PS3.

Was there really any reason to re-release this, other than to be a neat little money-spinner for Square-Enix?

Surely everyone who still gives a shit about FFVII (I personally stopped caring about five or six years ago; whenever Dirge of Cerberus came out) already has a copy that they play obsessively every day because it was apparently the only good thing left in their life?

It's already released? I thought it was just on the way or something.
Either way, I won't be playing it, as I already finished the original twice.

1) HUGE "Materia Fanboy" here
2) Does anyone know where to find mods for the new version, i keep getting bogged down in old mods for the original pc release. i want updated textures and character models on THIS version. I didn't buy a real copy of the thing to have to go pirate it in an effort to make it NOT suck graphically.
