Gladiatorial combat is now legal and televised all over the world. Convicted murderers now fight to the death for your amusement everyday. My question: would you watch it? It's completely legal and there's nothing you can do to stop it.

TV is still TV. TV is boring. I wouldn't watch unless the TV was already on.

Yes. Yes I would. As long as it wasn't too gruesome. If they were trained beforehand and had, say, a swordfight, hell yes I'd watch it. If it was just a brutal hand to hand fight to the death, maybe with knives and chains, I'd be a bit more hesitant.

Maybe once or twice, it would grow old after a while since it's television, but I'd be curious about it at first.

Running Man?

Uhm, I thought we as a people had become kinda against this barbaric senseless killing.

Nice to know people still want these death matches. I can gauge society better this way.

No, and I *would* try to stop it. Nothing is untouchable, and that shit won't fly.

Yes.

So long as all involved were healthy, of sane mind, able to surrender at any time, and were choosing to participate of their own free will.

Criminals? No.

Unjust punishment is not on.
That's not an option here. This is my hypothetical situation and it is absolute.

Hell, I've been suggesting this for years. Recoup some of the losses of putting criminals to death or housing them for life by putting deathmatches on PPV. Advertising rights alone would probably do alright.

This. Haven't we evolved as a society enough to be past the whole 'Colosseum-fight-to-the-death-for-amusement' thing yet?

Isn't what you have described the UFC pretty much? Regardless I am not that into sports and probably wouldn't watch it.

AHEM...

OT: I probably wouldn't watch it, it's not a fear of corpses or something (I've seen videos of Nazi death camps and raw footage from the great wars...thanks elective history) more just the sense of someone dying while others scream for more and me not being able to do anythhing about (trying desperately to stop death's a pretty horrible feeling).

You know...I don't know. Morally, I feel it's wrong and that I'd be appalled by it. But, at the present time, I'd probably watch it at least once to see what happens. I think after I watched it, I'd probably be repulsed and never tune in again.

So, watching real, consequential murder?

Umm, no thanks.

Is that even a question? Would you want to watch people die? Okay, yes, convicted murderers are pretty much not people, that's why we lock'em up.

If someone can actually get enjoyment from a human being killing another, that's wrong. Really wrong. "Future convicted murderer" type of wrong.
