Poll: Final Fantasy (I'm bored)

ok, let's review. final fantasy vi-x have been absolutely brilliant. x-2 had an enjoyable battle and mission structure but a godawful everything else. fuck xi and xiv (which incidentally is their latest mmorpg and has a roman numeral, so is technically main series). xii was pretty good, though not brilliant. xiii was ok.

that's at least a batting average of 60% or so for the past few years (not including mmorpgs). so it is likely that their next not-mmorpg will be about 60% awesome. that's not terrible and could easily rise to be about 80% awesome or plummet to about 40% awesome. but i'm an optimist, so, i'm going for the 80-plus.

and please dont quote this and tell me how much you strongly disagree and hated xii, xiii, or whatever. i dont care. this is my opinion here about the fate of the FF series.

I don't hate any games, I dislike and don't play most of them, I prefer the FFCC ones over the other ones and I agree, they are god awfull at making mmorpgs, look at their not final fantasy mmorpg that sucks.

I liked FF10, I liked FF12. Both had significant issues, but both had enough going for them to hold my interest and give me an enjoyable experience. FF13 was a god-awful game. Literally every way that a developer can go wrong in an RPG, they did, and more. The only good quality was the animations and character models. The game looked beautiful, it's just a shame that it was no fun to play. After that, I'm convinced that Square Enix is beyond redemption. Once you make a game that bad, there's no coming back unless you fire everyone on your staff and start from the ground up.

I don't want to write an essay cause I've done it before so I state...every game is different, no one game has gotten worse in quality just different. Some people dont like the change others do. Most people who don't like ff now and used to only like VII anyway so they have absolutely no opinion on this topic

Oh lord finnaly somone on this entire site with a sane veiw. I've already wrote paragraphs defending square to end on this site and they go unheeded so i'll be short.

To me there hasint been a bad Final fantasy theres diehard fans for everygame. I happen to be diehard about them all. Everygame is good for a reason, every story and every character of everygame play diffrent emotions and do diffrent things all to please diffrent people. I think its virtually impossible for there to be a flat out bad final fantasy. Personnly am an oldschool player who started with one through 5 (imported console baby!) But somehow dont tell me how FFXIII is my favorite so no one takes what i say seriously even though its true.....

The most humerous part about this all is i saw a thread about Valve about this EXACT THING somone saying valve sucks ect ect. The dude got flamed to death i think he even got put on probation for "Enciting a flame war" this was a long time ago. yet theres threads like this every week and there praised.

Its hard being a FF fan. Glad theres still some people fighting the good fight on this site.

I used to be a hater, just so you know I'm not biassed here, I still have my issues with it...

And then my girlfriend got me playing FF7. I'll be honest, it has completely blown me away. It really is a fun game and the story is interesting, if a little bit wacky in parts.

I've also never liked turn based games. I can't get into the Civ games, or even the Gameboy Pokemon ones. And yet FF7 has entertained me for over 15 hours now, over the past 4 days.

Now, FFXIII wasn't quite up to the standards fans expected, I still know for a fact that many fans played it fully and enjoyed it to some degree. IT WAS NOT A FAILURE. YES it lacked it's open world type gameplay, but can you really blame them for trying something new and different? They wanted to try a linear progression for the storyline, and they gave players an interesting experience as a result, as well as a new battle system (which I liked, though it would have been nice to have a tutorial). I for one think it's great that they were trying new things, even in the 14th main iteration.

I think it still has a hell of a lot of potential, and if XIII-2 gives fans the battle system they wanted, and a more divergent and open-world storyline, then it's gonna be one heck of an awesome game.

I wish they could make just one more good one. Actually no, not good; great. I want them to pull out all the stops, make a balls to the walls great Final Fantasy game for one last ride. Go out with a huge bang instead of the horrific sighs of millions of saddened fans.

Yeah, I may have started the franchise at X but since then I've played all of the main series (except XI and XIV) and have played a lot of the spin offs, infact I'm a big square fan now and I can confidently say that not one game in the series is the same as another, some may have similarities and I may dislike one or two games in the main series but all in all Final Fantasy does something different and innovative everytime from I to XIII and a lot of the people that complain haven't played before VII and thought it was the best game ever, as the others haven't followed that game and been a sequel as they were expecting they dislike the rest of the franchise.

Thing is a lot of people on this site are PC games so they don't have the japanese history most console gamers have, Valve is one of the best FPS developers and so someone has a bad word about them heads are gonna roll, same with Bioware and Bethesda as those three are probably three of the best western/american/canadian devs pc gamers will defend them to the death, most console gamers will probably defend Square, Konami, Capcom etc to the death in comparison.
