Poll: Final Fantasy XIII Dub or Sub

So the question is simple, will you play Final Fantasy XIII with Japanese (with sub ofc) Or English voice?

English probably, even though they'll sound dopey and annoying.

I don't like reading subtitles all that much.

I don't know about everyone else, but a game like that requires understanding of the plot. I can't read or speak Japanese, and having it present would just make it more confusing.

English isn't my native language, so I still turn on the subtitles on an English-language game. My English is pretty good, but it's easier to misunderstand a spoken word than a written one so I look at the subtitles when I don't understand what's being said. Because of that, I prefer games in the original language since I read subtitles no matter what. The same goes for movies.

The japanese voice actors are far better than the english ones. Subtitles aren't really that hard to deal with, and even when they are, it's usually worth it since it sound better and fits better with the games. All the on screen text in the game are english anyway, so understanding the game won't really be any harder than if the characters spoke english.

I'm not so sure it's the case of Japanese voice actors always being better as much as it about the fact that cheesy acting always seems less cheesy when you can't understand what they are saying.

This. It's just a case of willfull ignorance. And this is one of the few Japanese games out there who've put so much effort into working and tweaking the localization so that things like wonky scene timing or embarrassing mistranslations are all but nonexistent.

...Is what I'd like to say, but I haven't played it, so I can't say for sure. But I'm like 98% sure that the voice acting will be very, very good.

Unless you're fluent in Japanese how could you possibly know if the voice actors are better?

Dunno. I think I'll play like 10-15 minutes of each first and then make a decision.

Judging by some of the god awful english voice acting for JRPGs (Looking at you, Eternal Sonata, Grandia 1+2) I'll likely settle on Japanese, but I'd like to be optimistic about this.

Unless you're fluent in Japanese how could you possibly know if the voice actors are better?

I'm am not fluent in japanese yet, but i'm studying it at a university, so hopefully i will get to that level someday. But i will concede that, yes, unless i understand absolutely everything that's being said, it's hard to judge who is better.
But my point was that the emotion and passion the japanese voice actors put into making not only games, but also anime is far above what english voice actors do. And you don't need to be fluent to hear that.

From the litte what I've seen from the trailers, the only character that seems to have pretty awkward voice acting is Vanille... Although I'm not quite sure how good acting is even possible when the character you are playing is another Rikku expy.
