I can't stand watching my friend play Skyrim - he always swaps to third person and bumps into doors and walls and stuff. He plays a caster type so he doesn't exactly have to precision aim in combat, but I just can't understand it - I get frustrated even after a minute of trying to look over the shoulder of my character. It's also kind of a pain to interact with small objects on the ground, even simple things like opening the back entrance to the Thieves Guild is harder in third person.

Who prefers third person? Am I just a weirdo for playing in first?

First person, to be honest. I play as a caster as well, and 3rd person just seems weird.

Third person, i somehow lose any hint of immersion if i play it in first person. Also i like seeing my character.

I often change.

I'll use first for indoors and tight areas, and third for more open areas.
I think third looks cooler and gives a much better sense of scale and your surroundings.

First person when interacting with the game world (to pick up stuff) and third person when in combat (to avoid being flanked or blindsided) and in stealth (to move the camera around corners to see any guards without sticking my head out). So a good mix.

First, and those forced 3rd person killing animations annoy me greatly. Hard to be immersed when i instantly zoom out of my own head, nevermind the fact that expecially with dragons you usually float a metre to the side of where the animation should be centred.

I just switch between the two whenever i feel like it.

For instance if I'm journeying across half the map, I will switch to third person to watch my characters movement and stuff. Then if i get into combat I switched to first person, as it make blocking easier. And the 3rd person animation for Sword and shield are boring.

If i'm picking up/stealing stuff, then i go 1st person.

I'm a mage but still can't aim for shit in the third person view. It's almost as if someone has put a bucket over my head.

Although I like the 3rd person view while traveling, I WILL die if I fight on it. So, 3rd while strolling, 1st while doing anything important.

Third person always when exploring and first person when fighting because the third person combat is so horrid.

@ Legendaryped0: I doubt either is "better" than the other. I don't like third person view, but some of the points brought up are fairly good - I hadn't even thought of using the camera to check around corners.

I'm just wondering if one is more popular, and for what reasons. It doesn't make the less popular one evil or bad.

I swap quite a bit. In open areas, third person. In areas with cobwebs, dear God third person.

Actually....I'm 99% third person unless I'm sneaking.
Wouldn't third person be better for sneaking? So you can look all around you?

I would never leave third person if I could fight properly in it, its hard to aim and time your blocks

I switch between the two. First person for ranged stuff, third person for melee, though I also use first person to interact with things.

1st unless i'm just walking around town, then i go 3rd person so i can go "who's a badass? I'm a badass!" while walking around.

3rd person used to annoy me when for some reason equipping the Ancient Dark Brotherhood Cowl just glitched my cool Argonian head feathers out of existance without any cowl appearing, rather than going all broody and awesome

Then i found a Wooden Mask that somehow magic'd the cowl back into existance when equipped...

I'm sure that mask is meant to be a quest item of some sort, the enchantment on it is just "it hums with unfamiliar energy" or something like that.

Fucked if i'm giving it up though, it's like i'm channeling Darth Revan by way of Conan the Barbarian

First for me always. Really enjoy the feeling i could have missed something while sneaking around. 3rd person is too easy to check sides, you just see everything.

If I'm in a fight against a horde of average enemies - like those spectres in Meridia's temple, I'll switch to third person. Two swords and the Nightingale armour looks incredibly badass against them all.

I feel weird in third person, so I just have it on first person all the time--except when I want to see my character to look at armor or a weapon on it.

I would want to play third person when I'm just out in the open, but even then my character movement looks odd..
