I like seeing my character from time to time but dislike fighting or doing anything else besides running/walking in third-person mode. I also like using the "animcam" command so I can rotate the camera around my running character.

I really like 3rd person for a melee character. It's fun to watch. I of course switch to first when I try to interact with small objects, but I have no problem anywhere else in third person melee. With bows or with spells it's hard to aim in 3rd person.

First person all the way, no matter what kind of character. It's one of the things I love about the Elder Scrolls games.

I often change.

I'll use first for indoors and tight areas, and third for more open areas.
I think third looks cooler and gives a much better sense of scale and your surroundings.
Yeah pretty much this. I also go into first when using spells or picking up stuff.

I play both. I switch over to third person whenever I need to do some platforming. Such as climbing mountains in the weird way that I do, or when I need to make a jump. It allows me a winder view of both where I'm going, and what's under my feet. I generally stay in first if I need to interact with things/people and during combat. I find it difficult to aim Firebolts in third person view.

1st person for combat, or generally interacting with the world and moving through dungeons, but with nothing to do except for walking/traveling, I like to see my character.

First person. Unlike the previous GameByro options I can actually see someone who wasn't a complete masochist trying out third person from time to time with Skyrim, but it still feels clunky and horribly imprecise. I'm afraid these games were just meant to be played in 1st person, and it shows.

I like playing in third person evvery now and then because it looks like what Fable would have been if it actually did what Peter Molyneux keeps advertising.

First person.

I find it hard to be immersed if i'm not seeing through my characters eyes. I find it odd to hear some folk say thirdperson helps them feel more immersed, since well.. I don't see how that works.
Because immersion doesn't mean what you think it means, most likely.

Nearly always third person zoomed out all the way to maximize visual field, unless I'm in converstations with NPCs, then often I will bring it in. In general, I prefer third person and always play games that way if I can.

One thing I don't get: World of Warcraft also has the choice between first person and third person, but essentially everyone plays that in third person view. Why the difference? WoW uses targeting? Is it a difference between PC and console sensibilities? I dunno.

Raiding would be nearly impossible in first person view, you could probably get away with it for questing or something. I only ever go first-person for screenshots, honestly never occurred to me to attempt to play that way.

I use them both. If I'm just cruising around exploring I enjoy being able to see my character, but sometimes when I get into battles I'll have to pop it into first person so my character doesn't get in the way of aiming. Some combat is easy to do in 3rd person, but if I expect a challenge first is more reliable.

I'm thrilled to have them both tho, and 3rd person is actually quite playable now.

Well, the poll shows just about the right percentage of time I spend first vs. third person. My default is first person. I switch to third for looking around corners, checking out my new gear, and, when I think of it, for melee brawls. It works wonders for not backing into corners, tripping over rocks and it allows you to face your opponent better. And that's about it. Would be nice if you could rotate your camera around to watch your char walk towards you. I guess I'll save the badass walk for the Fallout games. *sigh*

I tend to use the 3rd person when traveling, to see the epic surroundings and my awesome character, then I switch to first person for combat. This might be just because I'm specialize in stealth and archery, I just find it easier that way. Plus, even though the combat animations in Skyrim have improved a lot since Fallout and Oblivion, they still don't look fantastic.

First-person. I'm honestly surprised there are people who play it in third-person.

3rd person for traveling across Skyrim...1st person for any sort of combat or interaction.

Anyone notice that something isn't right about archery? The arrows don't go where you aim them anymore. Like if I aim for an NPC's abdomen, I always find the arrow in their head. Or if I lead them because they are walking, I miss. If you aim for their head, you also miss.
