We are setting up to expand our home business of making geeky crafts into doing t-shirts. So I figured I'd come here to see which design sounds best to people.

Because, frankly, this has been expensive and I want to make sure our ideas are sound before we start wasting time and expensive materials on them.

No I can't tell you the name of the shop or the URL. Don't want to get in trouble on here for self advertising. ^_^;;

If you have any ideas of your own drop them here. Please keep in mind we are trying to keep the designs limited to two or three colors max. The more colors the more expensive and time consuming to make them.

If you're going for geeky t-shirts and have some extend of artistic abillities, how bout the classic stencil style che guverra print, only with iconic game characters instead?

You know you wanna see mario like this

OMG that's an awesome idea! My girlfriend handles the art side of the shop and I'll pass this onto her.

Might want to check copyright laws before you start production.
We are well versed in them. Thanks though.

As long as you use an original image and not one made by the company and as long as the company isn't making this exact same thing themselves, it's considered fan art and is legal.

Technically.

Companies can still contact you and tell you to stop selling that item. If you refuse you'd have to fight your case in court and good luck with that. Your opponent would invariably have far more money to invest and would drag the proceedings out until you run out of money.

So, while the law is on your side, you would lose. Gotta love how the legal system works eh?

So you just take whatever item it is down when they ask. Which, thankfully, is extremely rare.

VG cats has been selling a shirt with their rendition of the mario Boo ghost for years.

In all honesty, the vidya/geek T-shirt market is saturated at the moment. Unless you have some awesome ideas or a super-unique art style, I don't think you can compete.

I'm guessin' skyrim's gonna win it due to its current mass popularity.

Yer, none of them take my interest tho tbh.

I'm loving the Che Guverra idea too! Also how about some sort of in-game companies t-shirts? Like taking company names and logos from within a game, and making a IRL style t-shirt for it! A faded style Black Mesa would be awsome.
Or even just fake advertising tshirts for iconic in game items... like a fan art Links sword, with the tag line 'Because it's dangerous to go alone', Or an MGS box depicting it as 'one size fits all...'

I havn't done any research at all by the way, I have limited internet at work, so I'm just reeling ideas! I'm not sure if they exist, but hopefully not!

You voted for it and now it's done.

After over a week of work and more money than I care to think about. Seriously. Everything that COULD go wrong has. If I had known screen printing was going to be this damn hard and expensive I'd have never gotten into it. NEVER! Dear God what made me think this was a good idea??

I'm gonna go kill some dragons now!!!

Why not try bleach-craft? Probably a fair bit cheaper, a cool effect, and it shouldn't fade or wash out!

Actually we are doing very well for ourselves in other saturated markets. T-shirts are are just our latest expansion.

I started out making hand made fleece hats. Then we expanded into patches, then buttons, and then key chains. We've grown from making a total of 1,500 dollars last year to 6,000 this year. That's a growth of 400%.

So, yes, we are doing amazing despite saturated markets and recession.
