All the people saying to just ignore the Prequels are just raging about the fact they weren't the target for those movies or they thought they were. It was to revitalize the series and it did just that and the preteens and kids loved it and they also love the Clone Wars series and it doesn't matter what we think about it because we aren't nearly worth as much money as massive amounts of kids wanting Star Wars this and Star Wars that.

That being said, the Blu Ray series should be watched from 1 - 6 in Chronological Order.

They are good movies if you give them a chance, but those that rant against it just don't like particular parts or the actors, but Lucas wanted those and it is his to do what he will with it.

I had a thought about this recently so I'll drop it into this thread.

4 and 5 first, then once the shocking twist pertaining to Luke that the whole world already knows is exposed, watch 1,2 and 3 as a "flashback" almost as to how Darth ended up there, then finish the whole story off with 6

It makes the whole plot twist in 5 much more powerful. Actually if you watch 123 first it isn't a plot twist at all.

For one, I'd understand watching the first few and not being particularly interested in continuing, since the first few aren't as good.

Secondly, it was MADE for the prequels to be just that; prequels. The revelation of Darth Vader as Luke's father (one of the greatest plot twists in cinema history) would mean absolutely nothing if you saw the prequels before the original trilogy. Prequels are designed differently than films that are just the start of a series; they are made to inform of backstory, not to simply move events forward. They are meant to be seen in the order they are made; in this case especially, there is no excuse for doing otherwise.

I'd say 4,5,6, but she wants to watch six Star Wars movies? Well, 4,5,6,4,5,6. Problem solved.

Show her 4, 5, and 6, then drive a stake through the holes in the prequel DVDs and bury them at the crossroads under a layer of garlic and holy water.

If you must show the prequels, though, be sure to follow that up with the RedLetterMedia [http://redlettermedia.com/plinkett/star-wars/] reviews.
If anyone is wondering why it would be worth their time to watch these, this is the first line from the Phantom Menace review:

"Star Wars: The Phantom Menace was the most disappointing thing since my son, but while my son eventually hanged himself in the bathroom of a gas station, the unfortunate reality of the Star Wars prequels is that they'll be around; forever. They will never go away. They can never be undone."

If that appeals to you, then you'll appreciate the whole 70 minutes of it.

Hey guys, how about we stop pretending the prequels raped everyone in your family and just chill the hell down?

OT: Originals first, then the prequels. So the originals are actually viewed on the story its merits, rather than the lack of techincal merits.

The plot twists in 4 5 6 don't exist when watched in chronological order. A lot of the references in 1 2 3 don't make sense if you haven't seen 4 5 6. Obvious choice in my opinion. That's generally how prequels made out of order work.

Avoid Blu Ray like the plague. The CGI effects on the original trilogy make me think that the Prequels had syphilis and it spread.
Agreed. I think a good balance of film quality, and the original's glory was the DVD release in the early 2000. Yeah, some annoying CGI stuff, but DVD quality to make up for it. At least they didn't add Vader's "No! NO!" and weird the fuck out of Obi Wan's Krate Dragon call.

Anyway, *raises flameshield deflector shield* I like the prequels. The story wasn't quite as good, but still fairly interesting. What made them irritating was how Hayden Christianson (or whatever) played the character. And they could have made it feel less like he essentially nagged Padme into loving him. Other than that, they were good.

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

^That is the order, start, to finish, doesn't matter which are better, i wouldn't want to watch Harry Potter in reverse order because some people think the last ones are better than the first.

Sure the prequels aren't as good as ep 4, 5 and 6 but to understand most of the story? in order is the best choice.

Prequels aren't really supposed to be viewed like films that are late to filling up a story that the director didn't feel like telling back then. They're best viewed with prior knowledge, mostly because that's the whole point of making a prequel. Otherwise, all the hints and nods of what is to come go to waste. Watch the original trilogy, and then your friend can form whatever opinion she may have about the prequel trilogy.

While I agree with you for the most part, Lucas did not understand the meaning of focusing on a kid audience when making Episode III. Because I'm pretty sure it's not best to take your kids to a conclusion to the trilogy filled with one decapitation, limbs being sliced off, kids being presumably slaughtered, a hypocrite strangling his wife, and a fun battle resulting in the former hero burning alive while his master neither spares him of any suffering nor tries to save his life (which is what a lot of parents did).

Go with 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 all on bluray. For a first time watcher, this is the best way to go about watching them in my opinion. I just think it is nostalgia telling us who watched it in the order of 4, 5, 6 that it is the proper way.
this. i watched them 456-123 but i was still real young when 123 came out so i really didn't have tie for nostalgia to creep in. i had only seen 456 about a year before episode one. and loved the whole thing. so my advice is like yours. just avoid the nostalgia and go with the blue-ray that what you can't ever get the whole RUINED FOREVER [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RuinedFOREVER]!!!! or THEY CHANGED IT NOW IT SUCKS!!!! Watching 1, 2 and 3 first kind of ruins the climax of 5.

Plus, it's more fun to look at the parallels between the two trilogies if you watch the original one first.

So 4-5-6-1-2-3.

EDIT: Or above mentioned 4-5-1-2-3-6.

Personally, I saw them in this order:
1,4,5,6,4,5,6,5,5,5,5,5,5,5 (I like Hoth, okay?),5,5,5,5,5,5,4,5,6,2,3,4,5,6.
I was too young to see the originals in theaters, but I did see them on VHS. However, it is fun to fill in the blanks, so watch them in the theatrical release order. Also, if she burns out on a trilogy, see at least sees the original three.
Oh, and the best things to come out of the original trilogy?
Republic Commando game.(GET IT on steam (it's only $10))
Republic Commando books. Find them, and buy them. Adds much-needed grey area to the prequels.
