Can't imagine anyone at a Football game say it "properly".

I love it, but only in table form.

It's actually known as Soccer here in Australia too.

Technically there's more foot - ball interaction in Football/Soccer than there is in say, football/grid iron/rugby.

So I think Soccer/Football rightfully deserves the name.

It's definitely soccer. In Australia if you say football you're talking about the AFL, Australian Rules in other words. If you say rugby, you're talking about rugby, and if you say soccer than you're talking about soccer. But football? Yup you're actually talking about football then! Good old AFL!

I was going to say it's spelled soccer, but that was said, so OT: I've grown up with soccer, so I'll keep saying soccer.

The 'misspelling of extremely basic words in the thread title' trend seems to be really catching on this season.

'Football' is a bit like 'boarding' you could be talking about skateboarding, snowboarding, surfing e.t.c it's just going to mean different things to different people. 'Soccer' is just a very silly abbreviation 'association football' - but I hate the damn sport so I really don't care what you call it.

WTF is happening?

The whole reason all of these games are called football in one way or another is because at some point contact is made between the foot and the ball to score a point. Because in association football you can only use your foot, it's probably safe to label that as football.

All in all, it's called different things in different places, but football is what it was originally called, so that's how it should be.

Well, I live in the United States, so I call it soccer. However I do realise that in most of the world it is called football. So I could think of it that way if I werent a fan of American football.

But yes, I call it soccer simply because I live in America and if I started talking about football they would think it was something else. However, I do think that football makes more sense...

In australia we call it soccer because some misguided form of nationalism has leed everyone to think that all football it Australian Rules Football.
