The fun element. I like games that are realistic, unrealistic, story-based, not story-based, have good graphics, have poor graphics... The thing they all have in common is that they are all fun to play.

8/10 of the time I'll stick with a game for its story but if the gameplay just isn't up to snuff for my standards and I get frustrated then it's a lost cause for me unless of course it's Silent Hill.

YES I REALISE THE BIAS XD

Gameplay gameplay gameplay. The rest are just extras.

If it isn't fun then i'm not going to play it. That makes choosing a new game really simple.

You wouldn't happen to be in my BAD151, would you?

It depends on the game (please elaborate):
For Action games like 'God of War', I really don't care about story...it's all about how the graphics make the game play look good.

For 4X games like, Galactic Civilizations: Endless Universe, I value a smooth interface and attention to detail when it comes to how each civilization looks and feels different.

For JRPGs like Final Fantasy, or even Persona, I value story above all else. Sure, I want to combat to be smooth, but it's more about the characters for me than how great that 'limit break' looked.

Again, it depends on the genera and sometimes even on the game series.
I expect the Final Fantasy series to look good with lame voice acting and cliche JRPG plots.
*
I expect the Persona series, and really most MegaTen games, to have great stories and good game play.
*
I expect the Tales & Saga series to bore me to tears...which they do every time thus far.
