Okay , so this is a strange question . But i am wondering if any guys here on the escapist ever got a manicure or a pedicure . Usually people see both those things as activity for women because it isn't "manly" to take care of your nails on your hands and feet . I personally feel like going out of curiosity , but afraid to get turned down because i'm a dude . I do not know any guy who has gotten either a manicure or a pedicure , and i would probably get laughed at by everyone i know if i went .

Also , if you have never gotten a manicure or pedicure , is there any perticular reason why not? Would you go if it was free ( like someone gave you a gift card)?

No I haven't, I take care of my own nails by using klippers when they get too long.
When I'm nervous I usually start biting my nails on my fingers which is a bad habbit that I've tried to end but so far nothing working so my fingernails are very short. :p
As for someone giving me a gift card... sure why not give it a shot, it's more than just colouring your nails right? isn't it sort of like going to the dentist but they fix the nails instead?

No, and I don't plan to either, even if it were free. I cut my nails about once a week and that's where my interest in them dies. I really don't care for colours or shininess or smooth edges or whatever else - I mean, yeah on chicks, but not for myself. Just seems a little weird to me.

Well you don't need to put color , i do agree that a man with colored polish would be a bit weird .

Whilst I might poke a bit of fun at a man who went in for this kind of thing, as I might for one who dyed his hair, there's nothing fundamentally wrong with it. A lot of blokes are adopting practices that are traditionally female (waxing, plucking eyebrows etc.) so go for it, if it makes you feel better about yourself or your body.

Just be prepared for a bit of teasing if you make other people aware of what you've done.

Personally I just clip the buggers, and make sure they're clean. It's just part of the tedious ritual of presentation that I go through along with shaving, haircuts etc. Why cant we all just revert to caveman grooming standards? :p

Never have, never will. It's a giant waste of money when you can just keep your nails short yourself.

The whole thing reeks of metrosexuality, which I find ridiculous.

No, and I don't plan to. I don't think there is much of a point for a male to get a manicure. Beyond clipping for nails, what more would need to be done? I think a pedicure would be a bit more practical, but to me it's kind of gross. If they aren't cleaning the equipment they use properly...yeah let's just say it gets disgusting.

I wouldn't go if it was free. It would just feel like a waste of time to me.

No because I don't have a vagina...

I kid of course. It always felt like a giant waste of money to me. I can cut my own nails...it's not terribly difficult. Also, I have gross feet and I am not about to make someone touch those...things.

If someone walked up to me and handed me a gift certificate for a free mani/pedi, I would probably try the mani (that's the hand one, right?) just to see but I would never ever make someone suffer through my feet. I always thought that getting a hair cut with a hot towel/shampoo was a waste of money until I got one so maybe the mani thing has similar benefits that I'm just not aware of.

My girlfriend keeps trying to talk me into getting one. She also tries to get me to wear pink. Both aren't going to happen. I know it's just a societal construct but I'm not interested in being metro sexual.

Out of curiosity , to you ,is going to a barber shop , a waste of money and time? Because a person can cut their own hair , but men don't mind barber shops .

Also would you go to get a manicure/pedicure if it was free?

I go to a barber because I can't cut my hair without looking like an idiot, whereas it's quick and easy for me to trim my nails, and if I do a bad job no one will care.

And I wouldn't go for a manicure even if it was free. It takes me like two minutes to trim my nails, whereas I presumably have to spend time booking a manicure, then I have to travel however far it is for a manicure, and then I'd probably have to wait a while before I even get a manicure, and then the manicure itself probably takes a lot longer than two minutes.

No, it sounds like a waste of time and money. Ive known a few guys who do get manicures, and they get teasesd relentlessly.

I haven't, but people (mostly female) have questioned how I keep my nails so nice and shiny.

When I reply that I just trim them, occasionally use them to scratch er, stuff, and use them as flathead screwdrivers/tools they tend to deflate a little.

As others have said, it's just kind of a waste of time and money. Why bother when you can simply keep them trimmed at home for free, and in less than a minute to boot?

Wouldn't really pay another person to treat my nails but if it was free then I'd totally take up the offer and see what it's like! :D

Yes, I have. My step mom is a nail tech so she does mine for free. I haven't really had it done often, but I think it's good for me to get them taken care of. Pus, it is free!

No, because I can do it myself and it doesn't cost me anything. I'm perfectly capable of trimming and painting my own nails, which I do. The only expense is a few minor nail tools and refills on nail polish. Seems the best cost effective way of going about it.

Man, i wish i could use my nails as screwdrivers. I have a minor iron deficiency, which is to say i only dont have enough to make my nails as solid as they should be, so they bend... severely. I can barely open a can unless my nails are just at the tips of my fingers.

But as for a manicure/pedicure. Not something i would pay for, but if it's a slow week and so there's not much else to do, and it was free I might. No colored polish though, more or less just make my feet and/or hands nice and soft/clean. Over the counter soap can only do so much (and I hate most lotion. Feels like coating my hands in wax, which is not nice)
