Well I haven't payed for one but my girlfriend has given me one. It's whatever, I'm a very clean person anyways so my feet and hands are flawless. *hair flip*

Never. Wouldn't go even it was free. It's a girly thing to me and I'm a bit old fashioned like that.
My fingernails are fucking ugly though. Was a heavy biter when I was a little kid, so they don't grow quite right.

As for the barber question that popped up later: Personally I haven't had my hair cut in over eight years, but I wouldn't count it as the same as you can't really see your hair in the back of your head without some mirror work, and even then you would have a hard time getting it right. The nails are right in front of you and not exactly hard to take care of.

I haven't yet, but I probably will at some point. Just so that I can find out what it's like.

I don't expect you'd get turned down for one jsut because you're a guy, since... Well, their livelihoods would kind of depend on doing them, so I don't suppose they're keen on turning down potential customers.

Nah. I keep good care of my fingernails, so I don't think I'd ever need a manicure. I could probably stand to get a pedicure, but it'd probably be a better idea for me to get toenail correction surgery before they get ingrown, and then just keep as good a care of them as my fingernails.

For anyone that hasn't realized it yet--clip toenails straight across, don't do any of the rounding that you might do on your hands. If you round, it's pretty much a straight shot to ingrown toenails and a really painful month after surgery to get things fixed.

As far as a having a manicure/pedicure gifted to me, sure. It wouldn't cost me anything, and gives me points on my personal grooming.

I have had both done. I thought it was a nice and relaxing thing to do. It's funny the kind of looks the women used to give me when I walked in, but I didn't care. Pedicures are espeically fun, because I put a lot of abuse on my feet so it's good to pamper my feet every once in a while.

No. Why the hell would I do that? Nail clippers with a file on are about £2.

No, I would not go if it was free either .

Time to go to bathroom and get clippers: about 10 seconds. Time to clip nails: A minute or maybe 2.

Time to go to a shop and get a manicure/pedicure: A fuck of a lot longer.

OTOH, if you want to spend money on it, you go for it.

I haven't had one, but if I was filthy rich, or got given a free one I would certainly give it a go.

Have never had one, but I wouldn't have a problem with getting it done. Just don't really see a point to it.
My nails are muffed up though, probably because I cut them with a big fuck off knife. Because I can, and it shows off my massive manliness, and hairiness of chest!

Okay , so this is a strange question . But i am wondering if any guys here on the escapist ever got a manicure or a pedicure . Usually people see both those things as activity for women because it isn't "manly" to take care of your nails on your hands and feet . I personally feel like going out of curiosity , but afraid to get turned down because i'm a dude . I do not know any guy who has gotten either a manicure or a pedicure , and i would probably get laughed at by everyone i know if i went .

Also , if you have never gotten a manicure or pedicure , is there any perticular reason why not? Would you go if it was free ( like someone gave you a gift card)?
Well I marked no, but it isn't because I am against the idea. In fact I've been wanting to go in for a mani-pedi for a while now. My girlfriend and I already have the place picked out. It is called the Nail Bar. It is about a 15 minute walk from where I live and when you go there they give you the mani-pedi, but it is also a full bar. So you drink, socialize, and relax while someone pampers you.

I don't see anything wrong with getting one if you are curious. I wouldn't go regularly, but I think many men have mistaken the reason for getting one. It isn't because you are trying to look "pretty" or you are unable to do your own nails (and trust me, many men can not do their own nails nearly as well as they think they can), it is about going somewhere to relax and get pampered. It may not sound very manly, but human beings being social animals do respond very well to grooming rituals. It releases dopamine into your brain and makes you feel "good". This is similar to your mom scratching your head as a child, or your girlfriend scratching your back.

As for getting laughed at, why do they need to know? On top of that, just laugh with them, then tell them what a great time you had. I can understand why you might feel some trepidation at going (I have some very abrasive friends), it isn't any of their business what you do with your hands (unless you are in the habit of preparing their food or something).

No, because I'd never hear the end of it should anyone ever find out.
Seriously though, I don't do it because, as others have mentioned, it is far less expensive and time consuming to just clip them myself, pampering be damned.

No, and I don't plan to either, even if it were free. I cut my nails about once a week and that's where my interest in them dies. I really don't care for colours or shininess or smooth edges or whatever else - I mean, yeah on chicks, but not for myself. Just seems a little weird to me.
Well you don't need to put color , i do agree that a man with colored polish would be a bit weird .

OT: No thanks. I cut my nails fine by myself, and I don't need the stigma of "you got a WHAT?" Even if there wasn't a stigma, I still wouldn't go, for the same reason I don't go to fancy hairdressers. Just chop my hair off, that's all I want, and I can't do it myself without... tragic... things happening..

Nope. I spend my money on other meaningless shit instead. Some girls have asked me that same question though, because I have these long and feminine fingernails. They're actually jealous of my naturally pretty nails. I don't know if that's a good thing or not.

Absolutely not. Many of my hobbies involve doing some sort of heavy work with my hands. I rely on thick calluses and stained, hardened nails to avoid bleeding on everything I touch on a daily basis. Any such care would be wasted on me and very quickly reversed by my daily activities. Also, it strikes me as silly and frivolous.

nope, i just am completely opposite of being metro sexual, i trim my nails whenever they start to get in the way (generally with sports, catching a 70 mph ball in the nail can bloody hurt) otherwise that's about it.

why pay for something i can do for free and in my own house when i'm multi tasking? (part of my problem that i hate going out to do things, you can't multitask for shit going shopping/manicuring/etc...)

as many have mentioned, if it was given to me as a gift card, i would accept as to not hurt the persons feelings for trying to be thoughtful, and i would use it, but after that hell no, waste of time and money.

I don't really see the point, for either sex, unless you have a habit of chewing your fingernails or something and they've started to look brittle and ugly. Even then, I'm not sure how many people would notice the before or after. Still, if it makes you feel better about yourself then more power to you: especially if you stop worrying about how it affects you masculinity.

Honestly, we'd all be a lot better off if we stopped worrying that if we do 'X' then big gruff manly men (read: insecure manchildren) will laugh at us.

Never had one, but manliness doesn't enter into it. My nails could certainly use some care, but I've been biting them since I was a kid and they're pretty mutilated. I don't need a manicure; I need a time machine and a device that can alter a child's taste buds to make them think that nails taste like shit.
