So I finished the story to Red Dead Redemption, and I LOVE how it ended, when John died I was oh so curious how I would be able to continue playing the game and not feel cheated out of John dying. The way that the game ACTUALLY ends was awesome to me, not showing the final shot until you finish a stranger mission. But I can't decide if I like John or Jack better. John has awesome scars, Jack has an awesome goatee. John has a gruff awesome voice, Jack feels a bit contrived, almost like its forced.

What do you guys think, John or Jack Marston?

John was so many shades of badass, he was a really enjoyable character to play. Whilst I like the ending I just can't get it out of my head that Jack isn't the spoilt, whining little bugger that he was when I was playing John, and consequently enjoy playing as him less.

Yeah, I think the voice bugs me the most, and yeah, knowing that Jack was a little shit bothers me. It just sucks that to play the game to 100% as John I would have to start again, I still might, knock the targeting up to expert, maybe rob some trains and banks, take the evil path this time.

I kind of wish there were more missions at the ranch, I know it wouldn't go on forever, but maybe have a lot of minor, less scripted missions, try and work the ranch up to become productive, I felt thats where it was going, till the damn army came and ruined everything.

Also, John's cowboy outfit was so much cooler looking than Jacks :(

I like Jack...

but I just want to put a bullet through those govs and bang Bonnie.

Seriously though, you could see the ending from a mile away. I knew it would happen but it made me a little sad inside, just as the ending of the Mexican story-arc.

Shame there isn't any closure for poor Jack, besides roaming New Austin. Haven't seen any, besides me going into Blackwater shooting every cop I could see, for revenge.

(Another thing: I love how they used music in this game. I got shivers down my spine when I rode into Mexico the first time, José kicks ass)

I personally prefered John, since he's literally the ONLY character I liked even remotely (Other than the old gunslinger (Can't remember his name), but i've always liked that archetype anyways...

I just wish the end of the game hadn't been so obvious... it's decent from a story standpoint, but not too good as far as gameplay goes. It's like Rockstar was trying to make a statement, but i'm not sure what they were trying to say.

But yeah... John was kinda cool. I thought he had a well-fleshed out, interesting character with plenty of realism.

Of course, the argument for Jack is that he's INTENTIONALLY not supposed to be well-characterized, since his saga is just beginning.

So I guess personal preference would dictate the winner, really. (I will admit that Marston just looks a lot more badass).

I gotta go with John, mainly because he looks cooler and I cant stand Jack's voice (as so many have seemed to have said). One other thing is I cant stand how Jack yells "Faster you damn nag!" as I spur his horse along. I would love to see a cheat that lets you play as John after the game ends.

I think the Ending to this game Sucked and made the whole game serve 0 purpose. If Jack had more of a roll in the game it may have made more since.

If you finished the game and bought a paper, you would of seen that Ross retired to a cabin near Lake Don Julio. I spent about an hour and a half looking for any signs of Ross and his Wife. To let the game end this way with out even letting Jack get vengeance for what the Government did to the Marstons is criminal its self.

This reminds me of a few GREAT movies that have Moronic, Disappointing, and ?What was the director smoking?? endings.

The best thing for Rockstar right now, and I mean RIGHT NOW. Is to come out with some type of statement. That they are looking into these complaints of the players and are looking into a solution and or a patch. With out this kind of statement will result in lost revenue due to people buying used RDR games.

I suggest you take Jack on a trip to Blackwater and speak to a man at the train station... believe me, just do it

EDIT: And welcome to the Escapist, may you enjoy your stay :)

Thank you MiracleOfSound, That is what I was looking for :) I am going to go back and do it again but change it up a little. See what happens. Although, I was thinking... They really didn't leave it open for a RDR2 did they?

I don't like the ending. People may deny as it's only a game but you all know it's true. you take a personal liking to a character, so i wasn't too happy that john died. (You wouldn't kill off Tommy Or Ken Off GTA VC)

If i was the writer i would of ended it with jack being the hero and rushing John & Uncle to the doctors. OR had a huge arranged attack on Mr. Ross with all the earlier chracters (Irish, Dickinson, and the amardillo sheriffs etc... forgot everyones names lol) and then had the option to be John or Jack at the ranch.

You can't see any of the earlier characters they just go, you see dickenson quickly in blackwater that is it !

You realise there's a stranger quest that's exclusive for Jack where he hunts down the FBI agent who killed John right?

There is a stranger mission at the train station in Blackwater that is the true ending of the game. Remember the game isnt over till you see the credits

Well considering you've been playing the whole story as John you think the majority of people will like John better. One horse race really but if you play after the story you do start to like Jack a little better though.

John Marston, all the way. I liked his typical Rockstar protagonist cynical view at everything else in the world, because everything else in the world is downright sinister!

I was so pissed off with the ending as I stepped out of the barn and saw the fascist pigs I was ready to kill em all unfortunately I pressed the deadeye button so j couldn't kill any of em. To see such apowerful figure as john full of holes, on his knees and breathing so horribly was just unbearable, I'm welling up just thinking about it. Rockstar needs to bring out an alternative ending, unless there is one? Oh and the whole jack n john thing, john is hardened by his tough life his jokes atthe Mexican captain are funny and his outfits are awesome, jack on the on the other hand sounds like a fudging gremlin I just wish you could play as john After the game is over
