I was wondering, If at the end of each year, If Bioware were to release an offline version for the narrative for The Old Republic, and treat each year as a stand alone product, would you buy it?

I would love to play The Old Republic but I am not a fan of subscription fees. Presumably, this would remove said fees, in which I would be all over this.

I loved ToR's campaign/PvE story-archs. But being weighed down with the giant baggage of being an MMO is what killed it (and giving $15 a month to EA.)

Buy updates every single year? lolnope. I would probably enjoy an offline version though, having 8 different stories would offset the MMO combat and Bioware writing.

It all depends on the price and the changes they make each year. I would much rather see it become a F2P rather than a offline uppdate each year.

I don't do MMO's but I loved KOTOR I'm sure ToR would have plenty of content to keep me occupied for some time/get a massive raging boner. So yes, yes I would get it, TWICE.

I got it when it first came out and it was fun for the first play-through on both sides, but after that it got tedious as the actual story arcs for each class are spaced out with the same planet arcs as every other class. I'll only get back into it if it goes free to play.

Id rather see it become anything other than F2P personally.

However this suggestion really has nothing to do with the MMO itself. Basically what it would be doing is taking a snapshot of the MMO and making a few balancing mods like adjust the rate of XP for non quest beasts and raise vendor prices on items.

This would be so that those not willing to pay for an MMO, or play an MMO can get in the wealth of content each class has.

Honestly I could even see it clear to split it up to two volumes, IE Dark/Light side and sell them separately at say 20$ a pop. If going this far you could even take it a step further and develop the standalone into a console release again with nominal effort.

But none of that would take away from the existing game, or its development. You could even throw in a few things like say leaving PVP or AH vendors in the game and have it then advertise the MMO to use this feature.

Basically as the old content gets used and wore out, release it in a single player version and make more profit off of it by extending the content to a greater market and the point of it is the game is balanced enough to be played without the need of other people. (Seeing that from playing on a sever with a total population of less than 50.

F2P isn't that bad honestly. Most f2p games aren't p2w and its mostly cosmetic gear. They wouldn't cut out content for money like DDO does with their dungeons either. How many recent F2P games have people played anyways?

You can play it now just fine, just don't think of it as an mmo. Play it like Kotor with friends, because that's what it is.

I suppose it dependson the business model. If I could play the story archs of each class in a singleplayer mode I could certainly get behind that. However if I had to pay for each yearly patch I probably wouldnt.

Although if there was an expansion pack kind of business model that added new stories that were different from thsoe already owned i would probably buy that too

And that is what killed it for me as well.

Yeah the story arcs are great, some better than others, but having to plod through the rest of the quests took it out of me.

The voice acting was also great ... for the story arcs.

For the rest, once i'd seen them my spacebar took a beating.

Maybe but without the other players wouldn't it be harder to play alone or is it all reduce to rpg size or would it be fill of npc combatants?

Well currently playing on a server housing roughly 20-50 people at my best guess. There is no auction house, there is no pvp, and honestly the game is pretty playable without the player driven services. Only thing it would take to make it viable is simply up the cash drops out of mobs or raise the buy prices on vendor trash/greens to make viable money.

Having played The Old Republic I can safely say it's not worth it, not as an MMO nor as a singleplayer experience. Indeed if you are a fan of the previous Kotor games I'd recommend you stay as far away from Tor as possible. Go replay Kotor 1 or try out the Restored Content Mod for Kotor 2, it will be a much more satisfying and inexpensive experience.

What's funny is I liked the The Old Republic quite a lot... as a single player experience. If it had been KoTOR III instead of trying to be an MMO it could have been a great game.

With a tightened story and party based combat that would actually be connected to the story... hell yes.

But it most likely still wouldn't be on par with KoToR because it was just designed as a stretched out grindathon.

I played the free trial, and really enjoyed it. It'd need some modifications, to remove some of the grind.
On a tangent: Has anyone noticed that every Sith has an English accent? I'm starting to think the world thinks we're evil.

Edited for spelling. >_<

My first impression of SWTOR was that it should have been a multiplayer-enabled KotOR 3. I played it for 3 months and honestly had a lot of fun. In the end though, I couldn't help but come to the conclusion that it wasn't worth the $15 per month fee. So yeah, I would buy it and play it if it went single player. I would also play it if it goes F2P and probably spend some money on it if the model is decent (something like LotRO for example). Yes, I know F2P is much maligned everywhere on gaming forums, but what can I say? I love the game, it's just not worth the recurrent price in my opinion.

It was like that in KotOR as well. It dates back to the original trilogy where british actors were cast as Imperials.
