I'm not planning on buying a new console ever again. I much rather spend that money on occasionally buying an upgrade for my PC. Speaking of, does anyone offhandedly know a motherboard and processor that I can get for $600 or less that will be better than my six year old Intel Core i7 950 @3.07?

I chose "Bought a xbox and a 360 but won't buy a 720"
At this point it is still just a rumor. If false I probably will get a Next Xbox down the line.

But if the Next Xbox has Always Online, then I am completely done. Not only are they taking away our property right, but it is also totally creepy how they demand they let them spy on us all the time. Mandatory Kinect that watches you and demands extra money if there are too many people in a room watching a movie... not even 1984 was this creepy.

Me personally, no I won't buy it because I have had a connection cut out on me too often while playing on a console to even contemplate such action, I bought the 360 but not the original Xbox.
Yea,I live in a well populated area with abundant bandwidth but I still got to turn my modem off and on again sometimes when the signal drops. It's annoying enough when playing online, I can't imagine that interfering with offline play.
Also, the yopis sounds a little weird: like asking vegans if they want a ham & cheese omelet.

I did indeed get a 360, but I deceided a while ago that I'm not getting a console this generation. Hopefully off to uni this year, and since I already have a beand-new and surprisingly powerful laptop, a console would just not be worth it.

Exactly. I have as a stable an internet connection that you could ask for and it still randomly dies for a few minutes every now and then. I'm imagining playing Nocturne and my game quitting right in the middle of a grind session or a boss battle. RAGE. Not getting a 720 if the rumors are true.

I'll probably end up going with PS4/Wii U and maybe a little PC gaming even though I'm not totally fond of playing games on PC hardware that I don't always trust let alone understand at times.

Better to play with a Wii U and sit on the couch to relax and play some Monster Hunter for me.

I bought the xbox and 360. If the always online rumors are true they will lose my service until such a time that it is fixed to not assume that 720 owners are crooks who steal games and/or infringe copywrite.

I've also owned the PS1, PS2, PS3 and so far plan to buy the ps4. If they also decide to do something silly like this I'll drop them too.

But as is, I'm still assuming this was just a silly rumor or perhaps was true but they'll rethink it. It looks like the ps4 will be my first purchase of the next gen in that case.

Bought both the original and the 360, really enjoyed the 360 but despise having to pay for multiplayer. Will but a PS4 if the multiplayer is still free.

Why does everyone want these new consoles? What the fuck is wrong with my xbox or my Playstation 3? I'm still pickinng up entertaining games for it so why does everyone else seem to want to buy something else?

Where's the poll option for "I had to buy several 360s and don't feel too confident about purchasing Microsoft hardware?"

They're 7-year old systems that have been strangling industry innovation for the past 2 or 3 years.

512mB of RAM on outdated processors (the ps3 even divided its RAM into two 256mB components AND divided the processors to demand smaller asset categories that caused bloating games like Skyrim to crash it unless drastically patched). Yes, we can stop innovating here and still get games like Bioshock infinite. Or, we can usher in the next generation of machines that are capable of handling 16 times the games we're capable of processing now.

It's like complaining that because you enjoy games on the old flip phones that you don't see the purpose of getting a smart phone. The reason is as simple as that the gaming experience could be better and will be with this hardware. There's no telling what developers can do with this stuff.

Where's the option for I don't know and will wait until I see which rumors are true and which aren't.

According to the OP, the premise is "IF" it turns out to be true. Otherwise I wouldn't have answered it either.

Ahh, I missed that.
I've gotta go for no if it is always online. If they don't have backwards compatibility then I have no reason not to go for a PS4, and as that would block pre-owned games and I need to always be online, even though I do have an unstable internet connection. It's a bad movement for the game so I will have to go for no, I don't know if I would go for PS4 or just stick with my PC.

The fact that Microsoft hasn't denied anything means they're probably more than rumors. Keeping silent only fuels the rumors and damages their reputation.

On topic, I had an Xbox, and and Xbox 360. Even if the next console isn't always online I wont be getting it. The 360 dashboard is drowning in a torrent of ads, and I expect it to only get worse with the next generation.

I dont know. I think the 360/PS3 where very lacklustre for me. Not as excited for the PS4/720 as i was for the PS2. Maybe im just getting old or maybe to many similar games released. Seems only thing that changes is the graphics. I guess thats why buying a PS1 was exciting. I guess i will have to wait and see from E3 whether i like what they tell me about the new console. But seems they are selling more on the social stuff and not the gaming stuff. But sad to say i doubt i will continue gaming on the next gen of consoles. Which is sad being that i began gaming with an Atari playing Centipede.

Or its market research.

Exec1: We should put always online DRM that prevents used game sales

Exec2: Won't the players hate us and refuse to buy?

Exec1: Well... maybe, lets leak a rumor that we're going to do that and see the reaction, if its bad enough we'll pretend we never had the idea.

From what I've heard about the 720 so far it looks like I won't be buying it and that if I do buy a next gen console at all it will be the PS4. I would like to switch completely to PC gaming but that probably won't be until I'm out on my own and I'm the only one playing the games I buy.

So, I just finished watching the Jimquisition, and I was curious: If Microsoft does go through with the Always Online idea, will you buy the 720?

This is a question for people who bought either a Xbox or a 360.....

Right now the answer for me is no. I will not need both the Next and a PS4, and right now the PS4 is far more appealing.

But my reasons are a little different. I don't care about the always online requirement directly. What I care about it the blatant anti consumer attitude of Microsoft right now. We, the consumer, have a concern. the closest thing we have gotten to a response is "We don't see the problem. Deal with it you whiny drama queens."

I do not want to do business with these people. They are rude to me and this is just one incident in a long history of annoyances. Owning the next Xbox is not worth dealing with their shit.
