According to a pamphlet from Fox's Toy Fair representation, the studio is anticipating an R Rating for their third and final Wolverine film.

I suppose this is a good idea. Logan's solo ventures are less kid friendly, he just gets toned down when he's with the X-Men.

Finally! I hope R rated movies will be the new trend. And we will be plagued with less pg-13 superhero movies. Or at least more R rated ones.

R-rating isn't going to save the movie from being mediocre or straight-up bad. Fox has already proven they don't know how to handle the character. I don't really understand the sudden fascination with R-rated superhero movies. They've been around for decades. An R-rating doesn't necessarily mean something is going to be better (unless it's a comedy, typically). The Netflix Marvel shows have been rated MA so far, I am fairly certain.

I agree with Fappy in the sense that I don't think it'll necessarily save the movie but I do think an R-rating is the way to go with Wolvie simply because of what his powers are. I do think it would impact on the fight scenes though. By making the combat more visceral we might get a half-decent action movie out of it whereas the Wolverine movies so far have felt a little neutered in that department. Time will tell but I voted yes because it should make at least some difference.

I loved Dredd, from what I've heard I'll probably like Deadpool when I can arrange to get my friends together to watch it, so more superhero movies like that can only cater to a demographic that gets very little attention.

Yeah, I don't want all superhero movies to be R-rated, and I don't think it necessarily makes the movie better in anyway but with Wolverine it fits.

But like I said just making it R-rated doesn't mean the movie will be any good...

The risk is that they make decisions in order to get the R rating, if it just ends up being that way then sure why not.

Meh, I liked Wolverine without all the gore. I mean, Logan cutting people into 3 pieces is gonna look pretty dumb, and probably wouldn't fit in with the grittiness in the movie. And I would rathe not see Wolverine having sex...

Though I guess we could have the chance to see just how impressive Logan's healing factor is. But I dont think even an R-rating could accomodate intestines hanging out of a bloody hairy X-man in blue and yellow spandex.

I always have to scratch my head a bit any time I see the internet lamenting the lack of blood-letting done by Wolverine, or suggesting the next one should be R-rated or not. It's not like we've never had an R-rated Wolverine movie before, go look up the official Unleashed Extended Edition of The Wolverine. F-bombs and blood splatters galore, and even sending some ninjas through a frickin' snow grinder to paint the nearby buildings. Seriously.

I saw that movie just a couple months before seeing Days of Future Past for the first time, and it was actually a little jarring at first *not* seeing the blood when Wolverine was stabbing people.

Anyway, in regards to Wolverine 3, I don't hugely care one way or another. Sticking with The Wolverine formula sounds fine, with a PG-13 theatrical release and an R/Unrated Blu Ray release. That way there's at least some level of consistency to the series, and younger fans don't have to be completely left out. Not that the X-Men series has ever been known for its consistency...

I'm conflicted on whether to vote 'yes' or 'doesn't matter'. Would it being rated R be a good thing? Probably. But being rated R isn't adding a feature it's just removing limitations, and removing those limits doesn't mean squat if that new breathing room isn't filled with quality material.

The Wolverine movies have been pretty mediocre so at least the R rating gives them the opportunity to make the next movie good, bloody fun. I think this opens up the opportunity to create significantly better fight scenes. They won't have to cut away or do awkward shots to to conceal the fact that their hero is slicing people up.
