Title says it all, the FPS is a well-known genre and home to some of the best games ever, along with many controversies and the FPS of The Decade is center to a lot of internet debate.
So Escapists of the world, what is your favorite?
I've listed series's both direct and loosely connected.
Source = Half-life, Counterstrike, Team Fortress, Portal and Left 4 Dead.

So, vote for the Series of The Decade in the Poll, and debate the FPS of The Decade in the thread, enjoy! Sorry If I missed others.
EDIT: added killzone
EDIT 2: OK IM SORRY ABOUT BORDERLANDS! I grouped it with the other 2k games as they are similar like the source games. I'm sorry, can we get over it please?
EDIT 3: Fuck it, battlefield

Deus Ex I voted for merely since it was in the line-up, though it's supposed to be a genre blender and in terms of shooting JC seems to have missed all that training.

Anyways, I loved Deus Ex. If you don't count it as an FPS then I'd choose the Source games, excluding Counterstrike.

Gosh... That's a lot to choose from. I would go with Painkiller, but I had lost interest by the end.
I'll go with the first Call of Duty maybe.

Borderlands (I count it as it has basically the same layout as bioshock).

I voted Timesplitters, But If Killzone had have been as awesome as both is name and its sequel then that series would have got my vote...

I count It as more of a FPS then RPG, but I'm afraid that people will want me to count fallout 3 then.

Think about it, strip away the mad max aesthetic and it's basically bioshock with every room in rapture stretched 5 miles minus plasmids.

Fallout 3 also had a third person mode, so in counting that you would also have to count other games that have 1st and 3rd person modes, And in that case the MGS series would get my vote...
But Still,(IMO) Fallout isn't really an FPS, Its an RPG with guns and the possibility of first person.

I would've voted for the Killzone series, but sadly the option is absent.

Exactly my friend, also the first two are isometric RPG's.

I have to go with Halo. I know that other FPS games have done what it does and better a million times over, but if we're talking about for the entire decade... I honestly can't think of a game I had more fun with for the majority of the decade than Halo 3. Attempting (and failing miserably) to complete the game on Legendary, putzing around in bizarre custom games, teamkilling in Ranked Big Battle, jousting with Ghosts... My friends and I had some good times with that game. Heck, we still do.

Well, if you take away those things you're left with... a shooter. It's like saying that Prototype is like GTA if you take away the superpowers and change the setting.

The 'Source' option for me. Can't get enough of Half-Life, TF or P0RTAL. I've never actually played Left 4 Dead though.

Halo.

For me it was quite an experience playing it. One was amazing, two had a deeper story, and three had the best multiplayer. I can't think of any other FPS that had me soo hooked on it for several years.

Runners up include Timesplitters, Call of Duty, and Source.

I'm going with Valve's work. Everything from Half Life to L4D is brilliant, each game offering a totally new FPS experience; TF2 provided (to me) the most fresh feeling competitive multi-player FPS I have ever played, Half Life 2 was (and maybe still is) unparalleled in it's storytelling qualities (who needs cutscenes?) and they really broke new ground with L4D, putting the emphasis on cooperation.
