I would say that my favorite has to be RPG, simply because of games developers such as Bioware and Bethesda who rock the floor when it comes to making RPG's and they are the reason I love them so much. Even though I do love the RPG/FPS hybrids such as Borderlands and Fallout 3.

OT: Even though I like the story behind most RPG and I can normaly play them for longer amounts of time i'm still going for FPS as I spend more time playing them with my friends, most of the time versing over system link and every acts friendly (to an extent), so for that I see it as a better option.

Please don't use caps like your some sort of chav.

Plus this should be in gaming discussions.

However, for me it would be FPS
Why does it even matter? I will never understand. Is it that big of a deal that i used caps? Who did i hurt? Seriously?
Look, it's not so much the use of caps, though generally it's frowned upon here, it's more the post that's likely to get people irritated. Although your opinion is valid - each to their own and all that - but it's the lack of justification, (subjective) arguments as to why, and the poor grammar that you've used to make you point. You're right, it didn't hurt anybody but you opinion would be better apprieciated by the community (especially the older members here) if it were more thought out and better constructed.

Sorry for the lecture but recently the standards have been slipping - at least in my view. Anyway, as for the question I'd have to say it's a difficult choice, firstly by definition there's much more freedom in RPG's, i.e. you play how you want to, as who you want to be and you're given more choice. Whereas in FPS's the game is allowed to focus more specifically on each map etc. because you're more or less forced to do so. Of course there is a degree of freedom in FPS's in general, as you can often choose to go in guns a' blazing or as a more stealthy & sneaky character - just not usually as much as you can in RPG's.

It does also depend on the game itself: there are both good RPG's and good FPS's each with there own pro's and cons. E.g. Fallout 3 is, in my opinion, an excellent game, but at the same time it can be considered to be too easy and at times a bit of a grind, whereas say Half-life 2 + ep's. is also a very good game but you don't necessarily have the same connection with your character, in this case Gordon, and you are more restricted in what you do, i.e. linearity.

Overall I'd say it's a hard choice but probably RPG's would come up on top as, like I said, you have much more freedom to play the game the way you want to; though this in no way means that I don't really like to play FPS's.

There, I hope that satisfies your curiosity.

But to actually answer the OP, depends on my mood, but I find somewhat more variety in RPG's, Japanese or western.
*cocks shotgun for inevitable jokes about how all JRPG's are the same*
Aha, you have found the answer my friend, and are lifted in my regard. I am yet to try the first Deus Ex game, but I have heard that it is excellent. For this thread, I was going to cite something newer like Fallout 3.

I second this reiteration of the Escapist standards. We have a certain level of pride in the civility of our forums. (Wanted to say maturity, but somehow it didn't feel right.) In any case, caps-lock is not cruise control for awesome, and is, in fact, a good way to get reported on this forum.

Eh... while Morrowind is a fantastic game I'd hardly say there's much FPS involved, unless you're using magic all the time. Even then, the combat system requires a lot of patience to get used to.

Really? I got used to it almost instantly.

Also, I do use magic all the time. First-person is much easier for combat in Morrowind, makes you more accurate, even in melee.

I just found using weapons incredibly clumsy, as it happens it took me about 7 or 8 attempts to get into that game. So glad I persevered in the end though.

My brain? It's a pain in the ass to try and make sense of a long sentence in block capitals. And it's a bit hard on the eyes, too.

OT: RPG's - better stories, better characters, longer, more choice, (usually) open world - what's not to love about them?

I'm speaking generally of course - I'm sure there's plenty of FPS's with good stories, etc.

I prefer FPS/RPG's more than anything really. Like STALKER, Fallout 3, BioShock (little lacking on the RPG elements, but I still count it). But I do tend to play FPS more than RPGs.

Real RPGs are not my cup of tea, definitely FPS, however I love games like Deus Ex, but there are few.

I didn't know RPG was even a genre, that's a tad unfair that's like saying do you prefer oranges or anything in the meat section of the food pyramid. I tend to refer to most RPG's as action-adventure games, since that's what the actual gameplay is, unless it's turn based(few exceptions),then it can dive under a hummer. Zelda games for example are action/adventure,Pokemons is turn-based adventure, but they're both rpgs.

Though me, i prefer FPS. Half life is a great example of a game with story, character development, and narrative, something RPG's can no longer cling to and say, "you don't have this."

Tbh I prefer RPG's more, that does not mean that I do not play FPS's becuase lately I have been MW2 but it is not as good as say Oblivion a game which I had a really good time playing.
