So what kind of shooter do you like better?
third person shooters or first person shooters?

EDIT: i prefer shooting in first person, however i like third person shooter games better because mostly they include extras such as upgrades and armour.

BTW: I didn't vote rpg :p

TPS all the WAY gives you an easier view plus it makes up for slow turning speeds

1st person as then you don't have your characters body, head and gun taking up a lot of the screen.

hmm, not sure about that.
usually the body and head just cover a very small part of the bottom screen.

FPS. TPS always feels like they're trying to break immersion. Also with the shooter's tendency toward bulky male leads I'd prefer to have a small section of the screen taken up by a well oiled gun rather than a well oiled shoulder (*cough*Chris Redfield*cough*).

Gears of War and the third-person mode in Rainbow Six Vegas have shown me that you can strike a nice compromise. TPS for the win.

I have been a long time fan of FPS games but I'm begining to warm up to TPS seeing as there have been quite a few good third person shooters lately, both are much of a muchness, it depends on what I feel like playing at the time.

Also, screw your RPG's, they may be good but I still reserve the right to turn around and be cynical about them.

TPS for me. For me, the first person view breaks my immersion because I can never turn the way I'd really be able to if I were that character. Restricted camera angles are only forgivable in third person.

I agree completly but I have seen some TPS games that are just horribly made mostly Fallout 3, and yes i know you can use FPS which i do most of the time, but who does not want to the awesome you're wearing. So if a TPS is done right it is by far superior. otherwise i could give a rats ass.

When choosing between the two, I really have no preference. Both can be done well and both can be done badly. Both have the same elements and it's not the third-person or first-person view that makes or breaks the shooting game.

So, I consider them to be mostly the same thing.

And yes, I'd rather play a good RPG than a good shooter, but I do like shooters as well.

They both have their good points. Third person gives allows you to see things that are around you. I prefer first person though because of the following:
1.Your avatar doesn't cover the screen with his big, fat ass
2.Camaera never becomes an issue
3.Just plain more immersive (how can I feel like I'm the character when I can clearly see him like I'm standing behind him. It makes me feel like I'm standing behind him with an radio controller)

I have a question. For most of you who voted for FPS and claim "immersion", was your first shooter an FPS?

I always thought that I would've enjoyed Halo more if it was a TPS. And I definitely wouldn't have enjoyed Gears as much if it was first person.

TPS
as I explained before, I'd rather not feel like I'm about to get my face eaten by something

I prefer FPS because I find myself not wanting to look at some guy's bum all the time. Plus I feel a bit more immersed in the game in any case.
