A good shooter is a good shooter so I don't really have a preference. THAT SAID. FPS platforming is plain horrible and jumping puzzles in FPS are a horrible disease. *ahem*

I think anyway. But I agree with earlier posts in that 3PSs can have more features. FPS are usually quite similar, it takes something special for an FPS to stand out, 3PSs have an easier time of it, but I go to them for different things really.

First person; makes me feel like I'm killin all the guys my character shoots. R6V did it pretty well with using third person for a cover system, so that was nice, too.

Even though TPS has more camera problems and FPS provides more immersion, I like TPS best for the more cinematic way of gaming.

I have a question. For most of you who voted for FPS and claim "immersion", was your first shooter an FPS?

I always thought that I would've enjoyed Halo more if it was a TPS. And I definitely wouldn't have enjoyed Gears as much if it was first person.
FPS as I find it much harder to get immersed into a world when I can see the dude I'm supposed to be running around taking up alot of the screen.

I wouldn't use Gears and Halo as an example however. PC gamer.

Since i'm a PC gamer,i mainly prefer FPSes,but you know what? It fucking depends. Gears of War was pretty okay,as was Mass Effect (okay,it was Action-RPG,but still),and i simply cannot imagine first-person open-world game. When someone will create one of these,it will be pretty damn groundbreaking.

Third Person because I like playing video games. I like seeing my character. Being someone who actually understands how to aim a real gun makes FPS seem really inaccurate and hard to play. For some reason my mind wraps around aiming a 3rd person weapon a lot easier.

TPS all the WAY gives you an easier view plus it makes up for slow turning speeds
That's one of the problems I have with TPSs the turning speed specially on counsel games, besides most TPS have RPG elements so are they really TPSs.

As long as I get to shoot things the view doesn't matter.

FPS sinces its more precise. TPS games are more arcady usually. I prefer to play marksman, but in TPS I tend to have to adapt to not. (In FPS I use long range more often, but I realise I use closer range more in TPS games, such as shotgun in gears)

Give Oblivion a go, that's pretty good.
No,i mean with shootouts,carjacking,high-speed chases, attack helicopters and stuff. Oblivion is a fantasy RPG,which means it's not as fast-paced as,say Saints Row 2 or Mercenaries. And it's not strictly first-person.

Basically.

Some "shooters" deserve TPS or FPS depending on what it is. Doom 3 would not be very good third person. Gears of War would not be very good first person. It wouldn't help the game.

Something like Mirror's Edge might do well in third person, but I honestly really enjoyed the FP view. Sure, I didn't like falling 20 times before I started to understand the movement, but once I got it, it was very liberating and enjoyable.

Something like GTA3 would be pretty effing amazing as a FPS, but again, I enjoyed it in third person anyway, minus some clunky keyboard/mouse controls, but it got better once I got used to the port.

Generally, I like a first-person view, but hey, in Battlefield I would constantly change it in a plane (first person to make sure I'm above horizon, dogfight, etc, 3rd to aim bombs), and in Duke Nukem 3D deathmatch you'd switch to third person to see around corners and stuff.

In something like Trackmania, I prefer third person, in something like Wing Commander I like first person, in something like Descent I prefer first person, in something like Starfox I prefer third person...

It depends, with vanilla shooters I prefer to go FPS, but with RPG-style shooters (i.e. Mass Effect, Fallout 3 etc.) I prefer TPS for some odd reason...

it hard for me say witch one because i feel that both of them work really well like 3rd person shooters wasnt that good in the past but lately they have picked up the slack and can be just as good or some times better than most first person shooters. i think games with a covering systerm are always best in third person because the view makes it easier to look for cover, but in general i do favour the first person shooters rather than the 3rd i just seem to feel more like the character that i am playing as plus i think big scary monster seem to have the same effect on me as the brown note more when am looking threw the characters perpective because in TFP the scary ghoulies seem further away and less scary.

Depends. Some FPSs suck and some TPSs suck. Some are great, some aren't.

But usually I prefer TPSs.
