If its funny its fine.
Why can some people say I don't find this funny so now you can't say it (I know she didn't but they usually do).
The fact that she knew what he was like and laughs along at his other edgy stuff but then his material turns to something close to her and she gets irritated shows that she is a hypocrite.
Its like people laughing along when a comedian slams a religion but then they switch to the faith of the person and suddenly they get offended (also being offended does nothing to you so who cares).
what I hate the most though is when people say "Now I like 'dark' comedy as much as the next person but when people insult *insert something dear to the person* its not funny"

Anyone buying tickets to see Frankie Boyle should expect controversial humour - it's what he's all about. I can understand it must have affected her as a Mother, but the joke wasn't directed at her or her daughter personally, it was just part of his act.
If you don't like his type of humour, don't buy tickets for his show. To create this kind of fuss over a joke is ridiculous.

From her blog, talking about him on Mock The Week.

"loved his humour, how dry he is, how nasty he is, how clever he is"

"how nasty he is"

Until of course it's something that she doesnt find acceptable because it directly effects her. BS I say. Alot of people seem to not realize how much more "blue" or "darker" the subject material of a comic like Frankie can change when he's not being filtered through the BBC.

No material is off limits for a joke. That doesnt mean that all attempted jokes about taboo material will be funny.

He can say whatever he wants, and she can be offended all she wants. Free Speech, and all that rot. She only got upset by the routine because she has a kid with Down's. I'm guessing the rest of the audience was laughing. I mean, I've got a little brother with severe Autism, and I laugh as Autistic jokes. Hell, I make them myself. If you cannot laugh at horrible things like that, you may as well go crawl in a hole and die.

It's not exactly like making a joke about black people makes you racist. Basing your entire routine on it though, that might be a bit far.

But Frankie takes the piss out of everyone, and I mean everyone. He rips Scotland on several occasions.

Secondary, "stupid *****", I really don't see how you can insult the women in this story - she didn't stand up and complain - if anything Boyle created the controversy himself by forcing her to talk to him regarding her issue. Of course she has the right to be offended - you'd have to be incredibly moronic to not understand that point - yet she didn't actually do anything.

Personally I find Frankie Boyle to be the comedian for stupid people; everything he says is aimed at the lowest common denominator and appears to get laughs just because he insults someone...
Wait, did you just berate his opinion because it was insulting to the woman, and then insult everyone who likes Frankie Boyle? Seriously?

To be honest, Frankie Boyle is funniest when he's telling semi-sick jokes. Too often he goes for the horrific ones and I don't think they're that funny. Also, he's from Edinburgh. Dirty Bastard!!! :p

Frankie Boyle is the sort of comedian who plays devil's advocate. I know myself when I've tried my hand at standup, it's always fun to say something challenging just to get peoples reactions.

The black and white of this is that yes he can say those things regardless of who he offends. I don't enjoy jokes made about people with disabilities.

if you watch mock the week, Frankie says the most racist and degrading jokes imaginable. And i wouldn't have it any other way. he made the show and its gone to shit now because he isn't there. when someones voice over introduction says "the blackest man is show biz". the audience should know what they're getting into.

EDIT: also Russel Peters is incredibly 'racist'(in the P.C meaning of the word, not the derogatory sense but that a different kettle of bullshit) and hes a funny bastard.

Can I ask you for examples of people who are comedians for Intelligent people, I love to broaden my horizons so if you suggest a comedian I have not seen before and made my own judgement on I will give them a shot.

You do realize that that sums up nearly every successful comedian there is, right? Heck, that's the whole shtick for some of them.

I always consider ruckus over stuff like this to be complete bollocks. How the fuck does it matter what he "says"? Seriously, what harm is done by it? If his words 'offend people' then those people have bigger problems than Boyle's jokes. We should stop wondering about whether people should be allowed to *say* stuff and look into whether people should be allowed to *do* specific things.

Frankie has already had backlash from the BBC, the channel that made him one of - if not THE most well known comedian in the UK, for taking the p*ss out of the queen. Christ all it takes is ONE person to get "Offended" by something for the press try to ruin a comedic genius' whole f*cking career.

Papers hate the telly, any newspaper scandal ever has been caused by a well known and well liked TV personality making some kind of comment that a single person wrote in on a slow news week.

Comedians should be able to make whatever joke they want.

People should be able to be offended by them.

That's it. There's nothing more to it in my view.
Agreed. This thread needs to go no further than this guy's comment.
