Catch it and pin it!

And by pin it, I mean drive a pin through the top of its abdomen, splay its legs out and frame it in a glass case for all to behold.

Enjoy!

You're supposed to put the pin in the area where the cephalothorax and the abdomen are linked to preserve most of the form of the spider. Also this is what I would do too. Ever since I started studying biodiversity I've always started classifying whatever I see as far as I can.

so imagine, you're sitting at home, minding your own business, when suddenly you notice, on the wall there is a spider like none you've ever seen, it's bright blue, has long, spindly legs and is the size of a football. do you-

A- KILL THE SUNNOVABITCH!!!
B- get the hell out of there via the nearest door/window/newly created hole in the nearest wall
C- catch it! fame and fortune here i come!

i used to be an arachnaphobic and i think i still am on some level, i think this is the kind of experience that will have me soiling myself and running, in fact i don't even think i'd hesitate to jump out of or even through the window if it were nearest, at least then i'll leave people laughing if i bounce off it and get bitten and killed
It would be incredibly hard to simply crush it, if it is as big as a football, the Exoskeleton would prove to be quiet a challenge to land a killing shoe through it. But yeah, what I'd do is ring some zoo or the like and get them to look at it

Had it been an ordinary spider, I'd go get a newspaper and SMASH THAT THING.
But since it's ginormous and blue, and as somebody already pointed out it might jump, I'd grab my things and run, close the window/door, and call a little pest control firm in Sweden we like to call Anticimex. That or a frickin' science lab.

Hmmm...
is this english football or american football?
Oh who am i kidding!?
I would run unless i had a shotgun in one hand, grenade in the other and was wearing power armour.
Seriously, i would abandon the house FOREVER just in case, and, since i live in england it would be a hell of a scary sight to behold.

Ah, that I did not know... thank you. I've only really got a small bit of experience pinning insects, and it's right through the thorax. I'm not as mad as some of my lab colleagues (not by a long shot), but one guy only pins 'perfect specimens' and was pissed at himself for accidentally shaving about 1-2mm off a beetle's antenna (which he promptly freed), while another only pins bees, bee parasites and bee predators... yeah, he's got about six cases full of different species (with complete caste coverage). Damned cool collections, though, got to admit.

Breed an army of blue spiders.

Looks like someone's trying to build a Legion of Spiders...

Actually, I would probably use a legion of robots...
Now, that doesn't mean I won't use robotic spiders...

That happens to me sometimes well not bright blue spiders but fairly large spider. As usual I would run like hell away from the room I am in.

I must admit I would love to see that collection. It's hard to classify species of bugs, so that collection sounds amazing. Oh, and on a side note, insects (including butterflies) are usually pinned through thorax so that's the correct way, beetles through the right cover wing. Millipedes should be stored in in alcohol to preserve colour, shape and size.

I'd want to keep it as a pet. But first thing I do?
Find some big heavu coat or blanket, drape it over me and run like FUCK. Keep on running until my house is out of sight. Find a bomb shelter of some find, and lock myself up in it with several gallons of insect repellent.

Then, strike a match to illuminate the shelter and realize it is covered in dozens of those spiders.

if it's bright blue it's most likely poisonous
crush it with a damn pillow! then throw it out...
A pillow...?

Why not a book or something which has a bit of weight and doesn't lay so close to your head at night?

Look out window...does it seems 'misty' outside?

If yes
Then kill self

If No
Then:

Step out of room, close the door (with glass panels), put on old padded leathers, take down the boar spear from its display hooks, look through door to make its still in sight...move in a stab the mother fucker to death...

gape in horror as hundreds of little baby ones scatter out from the corpse and into various nooks and crannies around room....

Burn down block to be certain.

OT: I'd bail. Size of a football!? I think they made a movie like that, and let me tell you, shit hit the fan.
Was the movie eight-legged freaks by any chance? I would love to show that movie to an arachnophobic person >:D

But I would probably seal off all entrance and exit, watch it closely, and call a university to come with a big net, and before I let them in the property demand that they put me as the person who made the discovery, And I would visit it in its cage at the university and see what they found about it every few weeks. And get photos, would be a shame to see such a specimen get killed.

Id also tell my sister to take my nephew far far away he is allergic to house spider bites and has been in hospital twice.
It's baffling how often some of these people manage to get bitten by things. There was this girl in my grade who was allergic to ant bites, and she seemed to get bitten at least once every two months, which is strange. Is it common to get bitten by house spiders where you are?
Well I guess it must be quite common but of course they are so small that if you weren't allergic I guess you wouldn't notice. I think that's why it seems strange to everyone else.
In Britain the spiders dont get very big (I think it's the barn funnel web (Tegenaria domestica) he is allergic too) but they do have venomous bites.

Taken from the wiki: ''Their venom is both neuro- and necrotoxic and can leave small lesions over the bitten area, similar to that of a burn. Besides causing considerable local pain, venom effects are minimal in healthy adults and may sometimes include malaise and fatigue feelings in children and elderly, but will usually wear off on the same day.''

My nephew gets a massive red painful rash all over the area where he is bitten and can become unconcious with fever it's pretty nasty. My sister was really scared when it first happened.

My sister just sends him to my nans or my mums now if she is moving thinsg around in the house or doing alot to the garden as that seems to be the time he gets bitten. And of course he's only 7 so he plays outside alot. You can't really deprive the poor kid of that. Ironically he's not scared of them lol. My sister is though she hates spiders with the flaming fury of the gods, now she has even more reason too.
