Having spent some time around furries, I have to say: They're not as mental as (or for) the reasons the internet suggests.

They're bitchy, slutty (don't sugar coat it, they are), backstabbing and mostly gay.

Then again, I've heard it said that furries elsewhere (outside the UK) are more resonable.

The most interesting aspect is how they seem to react to wierdness. Many of them have one or more fetishes, while thinking another is fucked up. The example of this that most makes me want to burn shit down was an argument that erupted a while ago over a banner on a website, showing chracters as fat rabbits. A fair few people came out to declare "fat furs" to be sick and horrible. This included the dregs of the fandom, the people that really deserve the reputation the internet gives them, the cunts who are into "cub furs". And that's not the normal gay community meaning of cub.

They also seem to hate normalness. If you're not gay/into bdsm/some other fetish, expect to be interrogated. Hell, the fandom even has a website to let you build a huge list of your kinks to counteract any claims of being normal.

My boyfriend might just be the most normal guy in the fandom.

Aside: Fursuits are fucking terrifying.

I HAVE A QUESTION. Why does that fox have hair? It already has fur. Why does it need hair? This...this boggles my mind. Like, I'm seriously asking this one, not just trying to be a dick or anything.
It's not a dick thing to ask :3

There are various forms of 'anthro' (a play on the word 'anthropomorphic').
Some are more human than others or more 'feral' (as in, they have less or no anthropomorphic features and are just talking cats, dogs, whatever) my fursona (again, another play on words (lame, I know) persona this time) has my IRL hair, the one that Mookie_Magnus used before doesn't have hair for whatever reason...it's just personal taste.

Fair enough it does look weird but it's the way that I like it :/

Style mostly I imagine,
getting technical most antros wouldn't need clothes either,
they have hair and wear clothes because they are a mixture of human and non-human animal it's just some have more human features than others.

Edit Ninja'd

You probably don't distinguish between furries (aka those who like the art style) and the dreaded otherkin who believe that they were or are animals.
The former is just some random fetish, but the latter....well let's just say it's pretty much beyond me.

EDIT: everytime I hear or read the word "fursona" my mind almost drowns in rage. >_>

Like...does the hair grow along side the fur? Does it grow on the head instead of fur? Or does the fox just have a wig?
It's a drawing, It doesn't need to make sense Just look at that guy that drew that room made of stairs :p

I myself dislike (perhaps hate was too strong a word) them. I don't understand how someone can actually believe they are an animal, especially a rainbow wolf-cat or god knows what other sick combination. Not to mention the fact that I occasionally wear cat ears just for the heck of it and am very tired of being mistaken for a furry. / end rant. Go ahead spam me with your hate Furries, but this is just my opinion.
To each their own I suppose.

Love or Hate them and why/personal experiences or reasons.
Also if an actual furry would care to explain why they believe what they do I would be interested to hear it.

Edit: Since so many of you have a problem with my opinion when I was simply giving you my opinion in exchange for yours I ask that you stop commenting on why I'm wrong and focus more on stating your OWN opinion. Thank You.
It's not that I hate or even dislike 'people-who-like-to-become-anthropomorphic-animals', but it's the same as a very good looking, but rotten sandwich;

I don't mind it so much you show it to others because you find it beautiful, as everyone must be allowed to think as he/she wants, but don't rub the thing in my face or force me to participate in eating it, I.E. to believe the same as you.

The former isn't really a fetish, assuming you mean a sexual fetish.
I like furry art (its not a style) but it doesn't have to involve any sexual references whatsoever.

Otherwise Nintendo and Disney would be promoting furry fetish by making Starfox, Disney's Robin Hood and the like.

I love furries, but I am one so my opinion shouldn't count, it's severely biased.

But it's amusing to see the results of the poll as of now, and how the majority is just "Meh" about it. It's good, that's a good result :D Thank you internet.

Odd way of putting it but I agree the only reason anyone in real life knows I'm a furry is they will insist on asking me what my weirdest fetishes are and I list them off to see their reaction.

That or they ask why I have a half human animal as a desktop background.

BTW Furry porn is only my fourth weirdest fethish.

I would guess...there's a layer of fur underneath and then the hair just grows longer though the fur and out like you see it ;3

That's the point. You don't see anything wrong with giving animals tits and sexualising them.

On topic: I don't have a problem with them, but crying about fursecution and crap is annoying as hell. It's probably one or two rungs lower than admitting to watching animé imo.

They are a little wierd in my opinion, but hate is too strong a word- As long as they respect that i'm not one, i'm fine with it. Besides, fetish wise, furries are only tip-of-the-iceberg of wierd sexualities.

So it is fur? That makes some sense. At least you aren't one of those I'M A VEGAN TIGER people. You're alright in my books, and those are the best books there are.
Yeah, in the same way that hair IRL is fur in a way (but I'm not sure about that X3)
...what's a "Vegan Tiger"?
