Simpsons by far. One of the greatest shows ever made during season 5 to 9 I think with a lot of great silly, witty and even intellectual humour delivered every couple of seconds. There are so many memorable scenes and hilarious quotes that will stay funny forever. I can't watch any of the seasons after 11 I think, not even for 5 minutes.

Futurama was good till season 5 or 6, I can't remember. That's it though, and there were some very good episodes but nothing great.

The Simpsons had a huge part in pushing cartoons forward and creating new ways to use them. They found new audiences and opened up new possibilities for what subjects to address, what sort of humour to showcase and so forth. The Simpsons might be THE most significant cartoon ever in terms of how it moved the genre forward.

Futurama makes the most out of that newfound potential.

I'm voting Futurama simply because it entertains me more, but I am fully aware, and feel a need to emphasise, that a show like Futurama can only exist because The Simpsons helped pave the way for it.

Pretty much how you may or may not like The Beatles, but they still played a HUGE part in moving modern music to where it is now.

Futurama.

The benefit of setting it in the distant future lets them explore more nerdy and daring ideas considering they aren't held back in the modern day where it's all to easy to have another "current events" program like South Park. More original ideas = win. Even if one of those ideas is to have Zoidberg sleep with the Professor.
Plus the humor in it feels more bold than than the Simpsons.

Futurama, I think it's far better than Simpsons. Don't get me wrong, I love Simpsons, but I love Futurama more.

It still baffles me that The Simpsons has remained on the air all this time. I can't remember the last time I found even a little chuckle in an episode, even the infamous "Tree house of Horror" ones...

A couple of years ago I would have said The Simpsons, and I don't think Futurama can compare to some of their greater episodes in the golden years, but now it's just devolved into more crude and obvious humour that always seems to be making fun of something. It can still be funny, but the good jokes are fewer and buried between a dozen unfunny pop-culture references.

Futurama has more originality, and the whole sci-fi genre to make fun of, yet it rarely has to focus on just picking a nerd theme and taking the mick. I also like how it emphasises human stupidity and ignorance in such a magically advanced world. We have the technology to ensure world peace and live in harmony if we put our minds to it, but the assholes at the top don't want to, and everyone else is too self involved to realise it.

Simpsons at it's peak was far superior. The characters were better and it was alot less 'flashy' for want of a better way of putting it, and I like that in a comedy show. Recently however, I'd rather watch anything except the Simpsons.

Pity there isn't a 'Neither' button.

If you put a gun to my head and forced me to make a choice, I'd go with Futurama, simply for the better characters.

However, IMHO both shows have jumped the shark (the Simpsons did so years ago). Neither has the 'must see' factor they used to have.

Futurama, by virtue of not being The Simpsons.

It's been so long since the golden age of The Simpsons that the shit episodes vastly outnumber the good ones, and so it should be judged as a shit program.

I watched Futurama a few times when it first aired and it was funny and pretty interesting. I keep meaning to watch it again, but eh. I'm not too into cartoons besides South Park.

It is better than The Simpsons, though. I feel that The Simpsons has outstayed its welcome, and there's not much funny about it anymore. It's pretty much dead.

definitely Futurama. ive only seen a couple of episodes of The Simpsons and didnt really get into it. a friend introduced me to Futurama, which i had thought looked pretty stupid before i had actually watched an episode. i was instantly hooked. the show is hilarious, and i love all the jokes that relate to modern day but have a futuristic twist. i also really like the robot jokes.

Title says it all really.

Which of Matt Groening's two shows do you prefer, the long-running Simpsons, or the recently revived series of Futurama?

Please explain your reasons.
I win! I've ALWAYS loved Futurama, infinitely more so than Simpsons.

When the simpsons were in their prime, it was far better than Futurama. But these days I prefer even the weaker, resurrected Futurama over the Simpsons. The simpsons have just bombed man - they've run out of jokes and ideas and the only way to squeeze more episodes out of Springfield is to exaggerate and "flanderize" the characters until they are mere parodies of themselves.
