This is creepy. Valve fans are creepy.
I'm a fan of Valve games, and I too find this thread full of creepyness, I mean, man, why would you want to have him in the games?
why is this creepy? It's a reasonable request for the head of Valve to do a voice Cameo... makes them seem closer to the fans and their community. Makes Valve look like they actually give a shit.
Well, they don't actually give a shit, if they did give a shit, we'd have Episode 3 insted of Portal 2, and Gabe Newall, voicing a previously female role, that is just scary. Also, it's the Valve Fanboys obession with him, its just a tad creepy, like all the ZP fanboys/girls who see Croshaw as some new messiah.

That would be funny, but ultimately quite pointless.

I pretty sure he should be busy starting HL2:Epsiode 3 *Hint hint*

For those of you who haven't read about Portal 2 : There will be several new characters, new AI cores besides Glados. The idea was that he may drop two lines of dialog as a cameo as another character, just like famous directors who appear in the background in their movies.

Gabe Newell voicing GlaDos would be awful, clearly. Plus, Ellen McLain already did a wonderful job on Portal 1, and I wouldn't expect anyone else doing the part.

I don't know about this Gabe doesn't exactly have a good speaking voice
Indeed. At the GDC, he seemed to have difficulties speaking.

Anyway : This is just a humorous idea. No one is going to complain if it doesn't happen. :)

I'm not sure he would even do it...he has too much money now. Whether that is bad or good remains to be seen.

He already does this for commentary, so an AI core can't be that big of a stretch. I would love it hear it, could be funny.

This would be AWESOME!

And by AWESOME, I mean this new definition of awesome that has arisen on the internet, where it applies to something not awesome in the least.

I don't necessarily agree with your assessment that they don't give a shit (though I do agree that they favor the PC community, but hey at least we have 1 dev on our side unlike the others that fucked PC gamers over: "Yeah you Infinity Ward!"). We can't assume that they don't care simply because they are releasing another game first. Not only that, if you payed attention to Episode 2 and Portal you would notice that they take place in the same saga. Which brings me to my point: we can't assume that Valve doesn't give a shit until Portal 2 is released because for all we know it's a required part of the story to set the stage for Half-Life 2 Episode 3. I believe the story is already planned out for the Half-Life Universe, so this is possibly just part of the original plan to tell a great story...

(and hey maybe the reason they're not releasing Episode 3 yet is because they haven't found a way to design a level without their trademark "teetotaler" Physics trick. In which case if that is true, then they DO give a shit and are listening to the fans by trying to remove it and attempt something genuinely new.)

Are you sure that's a good idea? I mean, he must be so busy working on EP3 and all...*hint to Gabe*

But what the hell, why not. If he has time, it would be a really cool thing for Valve fans

I really don't care who plays the voice of the AI as long as the person is a good VA. Sure it would be funny if there was some sort of 'easter egg' like that, but if it's someone that can't VA well, then it could actually cause the game to be worse.

I do see your point, it could be integral for the story of Ep3 that we play Portal 2 first, which means, they are doing the right move but we have been waiting for soo long now, I can use my Half-Life blue balls as a mode of transport (guess the reference, win a cookie) maybe thats why I'm sorta going through alil Anti-Valve stage in my brain, I feel they dun't care about us like, and don't kid yourself, there WILL be a sew-saw puzzle, it wouldn't be Half-Life 2 without it, just a stardard FPS with a brilliant story, amazing graphics, amazingly well-rounded characters, an awesome physics engine, the ability to suck you in like the worlds most gorgeous womens snatch and good mod support, but not HL2.

I still maintain, that Gabe Newall, voicing the Ai in Portal 2, would be creepy.

Don't you mean AI? o.o

Good idea.
Very technically, either is correct. Seperating the letters with periods explictly marks the word as an acronym. In some cases, the acronym itself becomes better known than the collection of words that were used in it's formation, such as LASER (Light Amplification through the Stimulated Emission of Radiation), or SCUBA (Self Contained Underwater Breathing Aparatus) or even RADAR (RAdio Detection And Ranging). The same is true with shorter acronyms such as AI, TV, VCR, ATM and so forth.

Edit : Yes it was AI indeed. IA was the same name in my native language, not in English.
french?
Indeed ^^.

As far as Episode 3 is concerned, there have been rumors that they might drop the whole episodic idea altogether and continue with Half Life 3 on a brand new engine. But it's just rumors. It may be a good idea from them to continue to delay it and continue working on it until they have a really good new engine and new ideas to show.

You must have missed his post pre-edit, which had him typing "IA" repeatedly.

As someone who appreciates valve for what they've made, but still can see problems such as TF2 xbox support i've got to say, don't you think you've being a little bit too sycophantic?

I'm sure he's proberley a nice person, but I would prefer a Glados voice and not a funny for 2 seconds little valve insider joke for an entire game...

Also as something i've noticed on the internet when it comes to games in general, 'Petition' is a very very bad word.
I will point out, like many before me likely have, TF2 Xbox 360 support is not Valve's fault. They are a PC developer, and 360 ports are easy enough they agreed to do them. The problem is TF2 is ram intensive, something the 360 lacks. They've spent far more time trying to resolve the issues for the 360 than they should have, especially when the 360 TF2 community is almost non-existant anymore.

I think that would make an awesome cameo. I recurring thing I see in sci-fi movies is when some mega corporation makes an AI in the image of the companies vain megalomaniac founder. Not saying Gabe Newell is an evil corporate supervillain i just think it would make a nice parody if it was his voice at the head of aperture science
