When I see a "the end" or credit roll, that's when the game is finished for me.
A mark of a good game is one where I go back after finishing it just to re-experience it and/or find new things to get me to keep playing (Fallout being a good example).

To me once the complete the game, its over, if it has replay value, I will then try to get the achievements, but if not then I dont.

I'm a completionist. X-Box Live Achievements are the worst thing that's ever happened to my social life, and I rarely put down a game completely until I have every achievement for it.

The exception, however, are multiplayer achievements. While I'm a HUGE fan of ones like Gears of War (the first one) and the "kill 100 people with the sniper rifle" or Chromehounds and the "Play on every map" achievement, some achievements seem like they're almost meant to ruin my spirits, such as Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter's "Be #1 on the leaderboard".

So to sum it up: A game is "completed" for me when I get all the achievements (X-Box Live or Steam) unless there are unrealistic multiplayer achievements.

100% of the main game and anything extra, including xbox 360 achievements. The thing is that even though I consider that to be 100% done, whether I actually get there or not is a different question. (I will never get all my characters to hit quintiple 9's in FFX) It just depends on the game. I'll beat Devil May Cry on DMD and possible Hell and Hell, but I might not get S ranks on all the levels. It's not worth my sanity.

The poll needs a "when I'm bored" option, mainly because I'm one of those people who consider a game "finished" when I'm tired of everything the game has to offer.

gotta be the 100% thing, although I have never done that on a game, I'm just not up for hundreds of hours (or just hours) of doing stuff, when I get Oblivion soon I am going to 100% it though, I'm even going to get the expansions even though I am a cheapskate

Depends on the game. You need to differentiate "beat" and "finished". Many times they are the same thing, but for me "finished" is when I stop playing.

As far as achievements go...I live in a PC world, where only Steam games have achievements. It's kind of fun to see them flash up on your screen when you did something cool, but completely unnecessary in the long run.

I am done when I am bored, repeatedly pissed or frustrated which normally happens before the "official" end of most games. Some games I'll play over and over again on harder difficulty or repeat X amount of times, I like them (see Mafia, Max Payne, Half-Life collection, etc) and I might never be completely "finished".

I went with 'finishing on hardest difficulty' because I always start on the hardest available.

If there's an unlockable difficulty available after one completion it depends on the game whether I do it or not. e.g. MGS3 - I did. Baldur's Gate 2 - I did not.

100%, as close to perfect stats as I can, finish on the hardest setting and get all trophies/acheivements.

Then I will say a dead farewell and go on to my next game.

I lead a shallow life :)

If a game is like Tony Hawk, KOTOR, and so on then it's not really finished for me until I get absolutely sick of playing it at all. Other games are done when I reach the end, unless I feel there's a compelling reason to go back and unlock more stuff, but that rarely happens.

This. Unless I want to complete the game fully - 100% and all - I will, but there's not all that much satisfaction for me unless the game was the most funtastic experience of my life. I achieved the Platinum trophy in Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, and quickly realised that I had wasted several hours to get a virtual pat on the back. Then I ate a bowl of cookie dough, watched a marathon of Ellen, and cried myself to sleep.

Oh, like you're any better.
Erm, right, so after I've finished Drake's Fortune do I have to do those things?
Yes. And I mean a five gallon bowl. No excuses.
