There are some pretty big names in the gaming world, Such as EPIC, Rockstar, Ubisoft, Bioware, Bethesda etc, all of us have at least 1 game from the big boys.

I thought (while being bored out of my skull) it would be fun to see who has stole the gaming hearts of this community.

Mine is probably EA, Although Activison and Ubisoft aren't far behind.

Well you have EA and Activision up there, who I only see as Publishers. Point me to some games they made with their in-studio and not one of their subsidiaries.

If you are talking about subsidiaries like EA Sports Canada or BIG, then yeah, I've got some of their NHL games, and the SSX series.

As far as developers go?

Well, I own most of BioWare's library, but they aren't my favorite developer out there. I pretty much own every Obsidian game aside from Dungeon Siege III. (Which really doesn't look that good)

Edit: And Valve too. Not sure which games of theirs I don't own, honestly.

Equal shares of Bioware, Valve, and Bethesda followed thereafter by Ubisoft and then EA.

Can I just lump Nintendo into one big group? Out of all the Zeldas and Marios, I must have spent close to a thousand dollars on all their stuff over the years.

I'm sure they have created some of there own, doesn't EA create the Fifa games?

As for Activision, fair point... i'll remove them and edit it.

I picked valve, but not because I own lots of valve games (though I do own most of them) but because of steam and its constant sales.

God I love their cheap sales.

Yeah, you don't want to mix them up.

Sometimes they can be the same (Valve) sometimes they can be hard to differentiate (Bethesda Softworks vs Bethesda Game Studio) but most of the time there is a significsant line between The Publisher (who's job is to handle the money) and the Developer; the actual artistic talent.

See, the usual model is you have a Publisher who has a lot of money, the invest that money by creating or buying a development studio that they COMMISSION to make a game. This is what Activision does with the Call-of-duty games, getting Treyarch and Infinity Ward to make a game within a specification.

This list is Crazy you have EA and Valve as options. EA has published Valve games on console!

Epic Games are definitely developers, but Activision definitely is not, it owns studios but they are controlled subsidies, they are separate!

Rockstar, Bethesda...

Seriously. That and, dear god, Nintendo. Nintendo owned 90% of my allowances as a kid.

I've basically given Bioware a blank cheque to my wallet; Mass Effect, KotOR, Jade Empire, and DA:O. They've earned the right to make a home from my wallet.

Rockstar barely wins out over Bioware for me. Those bastards have consistently kept me coming back to them time and time again.

EA and Activision are not developers. They are publishers. There is a huge difference, which you may want to familiarize yourself with.

For the sake of being thorough, Ubisoft and Bioware are developers. Bioware is owned by EA. Bethesda, Epic, and Valve are both. Also, the developers aren't the ones who eat your wallet. Assuming a game turns a profit, it is the publisher who gets the lion's share.

Or, conversely, just change the title to dev/publisher?

Nope, made by EA Canada that EA-acquired... they used to be called "Black Box Games".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EA_Canada

Let me suggest this new list of developers:

Ubisoft Montreal
Bioware
Bethesda Games Studio
Epic Games
id software
Valve
Bungie
Infinity Ward (classic)
Infinity Ward (reformed, post West-Zampella)
Treyarch
Naughty Dog
Insomniac Games
Guerilla Games
Monolith
Croteam
Crytek
Projekt Red CD
Nintendo's internal studios
Rocksteady
Rockstar North
Rockstar San Diego
Irrational games
Gearbox

You know what, i know there is a limit on the number of poll options... and I haven't even listed half of all the great developers that are out there. I say ditch the poll and just ask people to state it who they like.

I'm going with Nintendo, even if I ignore second party stuff like Pokemon, there's still all the Mario and Zelda games. That coupled with the fact that I rarely get any of their games on sale and I've been buying them since the N64.

Cheers, tbh i don't know that many Publishers (apart form the big 3) so i'll just leave it as developers, They create the games for us to spend our money :p even if they don't get it :p

Poll...Yay or Nay?
