Okay, it's safe to say that by the end of the week that someone out there is going to have played GTA5 to completion, at least in terms of the actual story itself. So now that it's in our hands at last, we can officially start talking about what we think's going to be the 2013 Game Of The Year.

I don't think that most game media outlets will consider any next-gen titles for 2013 since they'll have only been available for 2 months at the longest, so the front runners are Bioshock Infinite, The Last Of Us, and the aforementioned GTA 5. So...time to start talking about which game is gonna get the nod. This is a discussion that's gonna go on till we actually see awards being given, heck it was being discussed when Bioshock Infinite was released, so why not get a head start?

So what's your choice? If it's something other than the "big 3", please elaborate. I would start with my own choice, but I'd like to see what others think first.

Persona 4 Arena easily wins it for me it blended great fighting with great storytelling and tied it in to the Persona universe in a way that didnt feel forced or unnatural.

If that dosent count since most of the world got it last year ill go with the Tomb Raider reboot as it did the impossible and made me actually care about Tomb Raider (hated the old Tomb Raiders) and is one of the games I had the most fun with. The multiplayer sucked as I expected it would but the single player campaign was really well done in my eyes.

I havent played GTA5 but that will win game of the year (a lot of the GOTYs anyway) for sure just like all the others did (even though they didnt deserve it in my eyes). Havent played the last of us yet but that looks great same with Metal Gear Rising.

I really like Infinite but it wasnt as good as a lot of other games I played this year it was still fun but it kinda let me down a bit as I was expecting Bioshock levels of epicness.

Guacamelee is a smaller game I had a huge amount of fun with and while I dont think its GOTY material its certainly one of the better games I have played this year.

I am probably forgetting some trouble is a lot of the great games I played this year didnt come out this year so I am trying to remember which are which I mean Skullgirls on PC came out but it was on consoles last year its just its being updated now so I am not sure it counts.

Anyway first vote goes for Persona 4 Arena and if that dosent count I will vote Tomb Raider.

There's still a quarter of a year left and I doubt anyone actually played through GTA5 yet, so the poll is rather pointless at this point.

So far nothing really stood out to me in the singleplayer department apart from Revengeance, Papers Please and Hotline Miami. All the other releases have been relatively forgettable. I assume GTA 5 would indeed be a strong contender but alas I'm in no position to judge that.

I'm going to wait until I've played GTA V, for now it's Remember Me. It has some awful flaws but it does have it's strong points and it's a nice, creative game.

I haven't played any of the games on your list. Actually, I haven't played any games that were released this year except for Aliens: Colonial Marines. Looks like I have a winner!

Have not personally played any of those. Only watched a friend play TLOU.

So sign me up for one Fire Emblem: Awakening. Enjoyable, interesting, and just about the only game I've completed that was released this year.

I just hope Final Fantasy XIV: ARR gets best MMO. The battle system is intuitive and addictive. Yes it had some traffic issues when it opened up, but only because it had more concurrent logins than any other Japanese MMO has ever had at launch. The traffic was WAY higher than they imagined. And not only that, but I can't really think of any MMO that's come out that didn't have some traffic issues upon release. Hell sometimes it's even just an expansion pack that does it in.

This. We haven't gotten to the Christmas releases yet, GTA5's been out for, what, a day, and you never know what awesomeness some indy studio might unveil to the world between now and January 1st. Way, way too early for this poll.

Bioshock Infinite (boring)
Aliens Colonial Marines (less said the better.)

Can't decide until I'm done with GTA V. But so far I'm in love with it the way I was in love with San Andreas back in the day. I'm waiting on Watch Dogs, Assassin's Creed IV and Batman: Arkham Origins, though.

So far it's Pikmin 3 for me, which will probably be beaten by either Zelda: Link Between Worlds, or Pokemon X and Y. I have played both Last of Us and Infinite, and I enjoyed myself way more playing Pikmin.

Bio infinite had crap gameplay. A game with crap gameplay doesn't win GOTY, don't matter if the story is amazing. It'll win movie of the year maybe.

The Last of Us I haven't played but I heard it's good but rather linear. I don't think a linear third person shooter that isn't 10/10 beats GTA V with its sandbox and replayability, despite never having played it myself, but since I haven't heard anything overwhelmingly bad about GTA V yet I'm going to assume it's more or less as good as I think it is, which is very.

All I'm going to say with certainty is that Infinite doesn't win.

Shouldn't we be waiting until, like, mid-to-late December to have this discussion?

Starts earlier and earlier every year...

It's not even October yet so we haven't got the Christmas rush. Bit too early to say, isn't it? I mean in the next couple of months we've got:

Battlefield 4
Watch Dogs
Killzone Shadow Fall
Sonic Lost World
Pokemon X/Y
Batman Arkham Origins
Assassin's Creed 4
COD Ghosts

To name but a few, so I'd rather hold off declaring something GOTY just yet.

My GOTY so far however is probably Saints Row 4, followed by Bioshock Infinite and Animal Crossing.

For me? No idea.

Since I'm really bad about caring about what the AAA market is doing (meaning; chances are that big release is going to go totally ignored by me) my choice would be something so far removed people will probably look at me funny.

But since you asked, an I'm thinking about it now, first game that came to mind was Dust: An Elyssian Tale, so, that, I guess.

May I just ask you if you went into the game expecting the combat to suck because the combat in Bioshock 1 did?

So far my GOTY is Saints Row IV, followed by Infinite and Divinity: Dragon Commander. But the year is very much not over. I've got higher hopes for the upcoming pokemon than I've had for a pokemon game in many years, I want to give Watch Dogs a fair shot, I haven't played Papers, Please yet... I think I'm forgetting something in October. And there always might be some surprise like FTL out there.

Fire Emblem: Awakening for me. The characters were a mixed bag but the story was solid and the gameplay was excellent. So many ways you can customize your army and a lot of good endgame content. Shin Megami Tensei 4 came close. Though, it was the only other 2013 game I played.

The christmas release rush isn't even close yet, bit soon to be asking for game of the year already.

Well, from the poll, Infinite, because it's the only one I've played. Otherwise, I guess Game Dev Tycoon was pretty good.

... those are literally the only two new games I've played this year.

To be honest, I'm expecting Ace Attorney 5 to be my game of the year. Freakin' adore that series, and am buying a 3DS pretty much for that and Wright vs Layton. Between those two games and the rest of the library, I think there's finally enough stuff on it to justify a purchase. Though I guess you never know, something unexpected might come out of left field and win it. Hearthstone is looking damn excellent, and if it releases this year (Which according to google it does, but that somehow feels suspect to me) might be strongly in the running.
