So far Shin Megami Tensei IV is winning. Still plan on picking up quite a few games, though, including GTAV once I get back access to my 360. At this point, though, I really don't see a game outside of Fire Emblem: Awakening or GTAV passing up STM4, but I guess I'll see as we get later in the year.

Shin Megami Tensei IV so far. I like it better than Lucifer's Call. Recreating a Super Pixie was one of my favorite moments in gaming.

MY game of the year so far looks like it will be XCOM (not the shooter). Its more addictive than crack and I just found out you can give your units JETPACKS!

As of now my game of the year is Fire Emblem Awakening. Not only is it my favorite game of the year, it is one of my favorite games of all time. It will be hard for any other games this year to beat that.

Of the big three listed here, I'd vote for The Last of Us. Haven't played GTA V yet, but I've never been a huge fan of those games (weirdly I've always felt they take themselves too seriously). Bioshock Infinite was really good, but with some glaring plot holes, simplified gameplay, and mostly forgettable characters (especially in the villain department) it failed to live up to the original (in my opinion). The Last of Us was just fantastic from start to finish. The only big negative I can think of off the top of my head is that replayability is limited, and I wish it had been longer (I still wanted to keep playing at the end). Hell, even the multiplayer was actually kind of enjoyable.

However, my personal pick would be the same a few others mentioned already: Fire Emblem: Awakening. Always loved the series (maybe a bit iffy on Shadow Dragon), and this game did not disappoint. Especially loved having a player avatar again (even if they are a bit of a mary sue).

I haven't played any of those, but I'm guessing it'll be The Last of Us. New IP has the advantage I think.

It's not even October yet so we haven't got the Christmas rush. Bit too early to say, isn't it? I mean in the next couple of months we've got:

Battlefield 4
Watch Dogs
Killzone Shadow Fall
Sonic Lost World
Pokemon X/Y
Batman Arkham Origins
Assassin's Creed 4
COD Ghosts

To name but a few, so I'd rather hold off declaring something GOTY just yet.

My GOTY so far however is probably Saints Row 4, followed by Bioshock Infinite and Animal Crossing.
X-Com: Enemy Within, Super Mario 3D world, Shadow Warrior, Knack, Castlevania Lords of Shadow: 2, and Beyond: Two Souls, are six more noteworthy titles coming out this year. A lot of those that are coming out soon are potential GOTY.

I'm mostly looking forward to Beyond, Ellen Page FTW!

Personally, with all these other great games coming out this year, i think it's too early to tell just yet.

Not much choice here. Personally I couldn't get into the controls of the Last of Us, and I felt the tension went away as the game went on and I found more and more ammo. Although I will admit I am yet to finish it as around 8 hours in my PS3's hard drive got wiped, but I think the fact I have yet to bother starting it back up says a lot.
I am not a fan of GTA in general, so I have no interest in even playing 5. As such my game of the year is easily Bioshock Infinite, I enjoyed it even more than the origional which is saying a lot, and that ending twist was brilliant. Sure a lot of people cry over-ratedness, however that in no way should effect the quality of the game or how much fun I had with it zipping from skyline to skyline flying off and sending guards flying before I ignited several of them to death with a quick vigor.

BioShock Infinite - Most aesthetically pleasing (Nominated for: Outstanding Female Character)

The Last of Us - Most interesting story / Outstanding Female Character / Newcommer of the year

GTA V - Most absorbing Sandbox

Of course i'm fan of Naughty Dog's work. Have been since PS1, but even as i take a step back from my fanboy zone The Last of Us is still one of the best experiences i've had with my console this year. Great atmosphere, great story, solid gameplay and interesting and engaging characters. My only complaint would be that there were far too many insta-kills.

I just hope Final Fantasy XIV: ARR gets best MMO.
It's pretty easy to be the best when you are the only one. :)

Name one more big MMO that was released this year. I don't recall any others.

I think the only game I've bought and completed this year was Bioshock: Infinite.

Best games I've played this year mostly were released before. Skullgirls has been tons of fun, To The Moon is by far the best story I've ever experienced in any media, but techinically both were released in 2012. Some of the games in the Origin Bundle like Crysis 2 was tons of fun, but that was a 2011 game.

Infinite wins by default.

EDIT: Oh, I did play Metro: Last Light. A big improvement on Metro 2033, but I really disliked some changes they did -- streamlining gas masks and certain gunplay when I thought they were perfect in their awkward state in 2033, featuring Day One DLC including Ranger Mode, and completely ballsing up characters like Anna, Khan, and Ulman. Infinite still wins, even though I might've sunk more time into Last Light.

Little early for GOTY? There is still the christmas glut combined with the release of next gen of consoles to go.

Metro: Last Light
Saints Row 4

Are both contenders for my GOTY.

Metro last light was the only game this year that I truly loved.
Bioshock infinite is a strong runner up though.
I havent played GTA 5 yet, but I'm getting it on friday.

err...
humm...

Well by the time (say it fast) [sub]christmas[/sub] (phew!) comes around I'll have bought a grand total of two new games this year

so for now its Saints Row 4, and it may stay that way if a certain pirate assassin is as boring as his grandson!

It's September... We're a little more than 3 months from the Christmas rush. I think you're posting this a little prematurely. So far though, I'd say Bioshock Infinite only because I haven't played [/i]The Last of Us[/i] and I'm in team "Not giving a shit about GTA post San Andreas".

Well it's either going to be GTA V, Pokemon X, or Arkham Origins. And sine Rocksteady isn't developing Origins, that's off the table. Animal Crossing doesn't bring enough new stuff to the table and Bioshock Infinite was infinitely inferior to 1.

At least it's not going to end up a tie for me like last year. What with Borderlands 2 well in the lead until Far Cry 3 surprised us all. Not to mention the DLC they both got.

...Wait a minute...is Skyrim really two years old already?!
...I feel old.

Saints Row 4 for me, with I guess Bioshock Infinite in second.

I've already played Saints Row 4 a lot more than Bioshock and am probably having a lot more fun with it.

GTA V could still be good, but I won't be playing it until it's on PC, and I'm hesitant since IV was such utter garbage.
