Now im sure im not the first one to ever notice this and if i am shame on all of you for ignoreing it.

But when ever a game is announced the people working on it always and i mean always make it seem like it is gods gift to gamers everywhere. Now before any of you reply think of a few reasons why they do this cause i have thought about it also. Hyping it up, Proud of there work, Thought it would be a good game, etc.

Now i wannt go into another issue about how no one askes them why they think it failed or didn't do as well as they wanted but i wont touch on that here if you guys wanna start that do so.

All the same give me your thoughts on this if you've noticed it and tell me why you think they do so. Also on a note i don't care what your favorite game/studio is i only wanna hear about this topic and if you noticed and why you think they do this.

Still trying to figure out what the thread title means.
Edit for clarity?

well if they were just sitting at their desks making as much cliche and overused lines of code and only taking from libraries and taking all ideas from the book, they'd probably quit from the soul crushing boredom. THey're trying to make a good game. Give 'em a break.

Well, of course! If they aren't totally enthusiastic about it, then they can't expect anyone else to be. It's the hype machine. They have to generate interest in their product. That's how units get sold.

If a studio approached a game release with an attitude like "Buy our game. Or Don't. Whatever, man," then no one will be interested.

[Any game developer] says they have created the greatest game ever in a game's pre-release hype.
Oh. Ok. I kind of see that now.
Well, that is their job. Can't really fault them for that. They do it for the mortgage.

This is really more of a marketing thing. I'm graduating with a degree in computer science in 2 months and a few of my friends have gone on to work in the games industry. Trust me, no one is more familiar with the failings of a piece of software than the developers. The marketing team is the one who makes all the lies and starts the hype machine.

True, the marketing liars and the lead developer are the designated hypemakers.
The latter being the only one of the two who actually knows *anything* about what goes on ingame...

They're not exectly going to sell many games with "Our game might be good. It depends on your tastes really. And Tim was in hospital for most of it so there could be bugs. To be honest we didn't really work hard."

But saying "THIS GAME IS GOING TO BLOW YOUR TINY PEA BRAIN! It's so awesome three playtesters had heart attacks from excitment! This game has the most revloutionary gameplay ever. The story was written by Shakespeare, Mark Twain and Chuck Norris so you know it kicks ass. And the graphics are so good you'll start comparing REAL LIFE to IT instead of IT to REAL LIFE!"

THAT would get you money. Throw in some shots of violence, nudity and an explosion or two and you'll be rich on the first day of release.

I could imagine someone coming on some interview being like "our new game, HeadSploder VIII is alright, but honestly I'd rather be working on CockPuncher Neo. This game blows donkey Balls.".

It's bad PR to say the game you're making is bad. Besides, when you've spent 10 years making a game, scrapping and rebuilding it across three platforms, after all that investment you're going to have eyes only for your baby. People spend huge chunks of their lives getting their games made. Not all of them are going to be good, but they all take years of effort. With the exception of shovelware, of course.

Imagine how Dennis Dyack felt about Too Human.
