Gameplay.

Tale [Prototype], for example.
I could NOT give any less of a toss about the story, and yet the gameplay entertains me for hours on end.

Well, they are both important, but I play games to have fun. If I really wanted a good story, I would read a book (Which I do as well).
I was going to say this, almost verbatim.

If a game has a bad story, but great gameplay, it's still a good game.

If a game has a great story but horrible gameplay, you're better off reading a book or watching a movie.

If a game has no gameplay, it's not a game at all. There are plenty of good games that have no story at all.

In the majority of cases I would say game play unless its rpg where gameplay is just an added bonus.

I love story, and I love game play. In a perfect world there would be a perfect balance between the two. But unfortunately, even if a game has the greatest story ever told, and the worst game play possible, I think it would ruin the enjoyment of the game, while vice versa, if you had the greatest game play in the world, it wouldn't necessarily be destroyed by a horrible story.

They're both important factors but what good is a great story if the gameplay sucks?
I enjoy a good story but I want to have fun too and the game with best gameplay would obviously be one of the most fun things ever.

Story much more important for me, but I need both before I like the game properly. That said, a good story doesn't necessarily mean bad gameplay, so for the purposes of this thread I can have a great story with good gameplay.

Story... i lose interest in games if the story isn't to a certain standard. I can forgive bad gameplay if the story is good.

But then again... when it's multiplayer based the gameplay is most importan... i couldn't give a crap about plot if the game wants me to crush someone i never met... i'd gladly do it if it was fun doing so.

But story is my choice because i'm irish and our internet is drunk so i play more single player then multiplayer

Story, as long as the gameplay is playable. If the gameplay is toooo bad, then sure, there's nothing a story can do.

Somehow I can let a good story and good looking game past some gameplay issues.

Gameplay, for sure.

A story-driven game with bad gameplay is just a movie that boots you to the main menu between each scene.

Its true amazing story and make a game epic, but if your getting mad playing the game, you might as well read a book or watch a movie
