$20 a year for this message

I just joined the escapist Publisher Club. Which $20 a year. I decided to do this after the DDOS attack. I felt the best way to support #GamerGate is by supporting one of the few websites allowing for open discussion of event. I figure defending a website from cyber attacks cost money. and its wasn't a lot for a years worth. What do you think?

I am already a member so welcome to the club! There's punch and pie in the corner.

Now since I'm already a member, this is going to sound a bit biased but I do think that if I had not been a member pre-"Greg Tito being awesome and having the only place that allows an actual discussion on this topic (even if it's a topic I have no interest in)", I would join now post-GTbaahtoptaaadott(eiiatihnii) for short (that rolls off the tongue so beautifully!).

I don't particularly care about the discussion (in fact, I almost would rather it go away since it seems to just be taking the threads over) but after the DDoS attack, I flipped that attitude right around. The discussion will eventually die down and I'll know that my site of choice was one of the few to stand up for what should be a pretty basic right.

Yeah, but only because of the bigger avatar and custom title. And I guess the no ad thing, so I can sleep soundly at night.

Plus I spend most of my time here, so why not? It's only like £15 a year for me, even my broke ass can afford that.
You mean you didn't join for the hustle and bustle of the publisher's club forums?

Eh, I'd be worried that they'd change the modding rules the week after I did that and ban me.

Don't think you can transfer membership to sock puppet accounts.

I've been a PubClub member for quite some time. A larger avatar and the custom title were what drew me, particularly the custom title. Other benefits such as no Captcha and no ads are major, major benefits. From the screams that occasionally emerge in the Forums I'm very glad I don't have to deal with the ads. The freedom from ads is worth the $20 annual membership fee alone!

I came back to the Escapist after several months of minimal activity and thus missed the vast majority of the GamersGate hooplaah. I stay away from such things for the most part.

Anyway, welcome to the PubClub. Your timing is very good, btw. The Door to the Basement that haunted the PubClub forum is gone, now.

Of course, who knows when another such door may open? <.<

Shoosh Colour, that's supposed to be a secret.

OT: I did it to get rid of the ads. The bigger avatar and custom title are nice too.

Now I'm free of the captcha system's stalking.

Been a member for a while now, but only because it removes the advertising from the site and lets me view video content on my iPad generic app-orientated tablet. Couldn't give a crap about 'GamerGate' if I'm honest - I game for the games, not the socio-political commentary.

I do think $20 a year is a bit steep, if there was a one off payment option I'd consider it.

I've survived without it for 3 years, I can go further...

I have been around these forums for some time now and I sincerely doubt that there is any topic within the Publisher's Club that hasn't been touched upon by those of us raking around in the "muck". (Did you see what I did there?)

And I can assure you that you are not talking about me at all.

I always operate under the assumption I'll be banned soon. Twenty bucks seems a lot for a couple weeks.

Heh, maybe it's due to the age difference but $20 seems very little to me, I mean it's the equivalent of a meal out for a whole year of membership. I've been a Pub Clubber for getting close to three years or so now, I tried going without it last year when my second year expired... didn't last 48 hours. It was the auto-playing adverts which were the worst :-O

Well, I actually stopped watching Escapist videos entirely a while ago so the ability to watch it on mobile devices and higher quality videos doesn't really matter. Also I don't mind the ad banners, even the auto-playing-sound-enabled ones because I have headphones plugged into something else. I don't really pay attention to titles, the badge is pretty worthless and the pubclub forum is dead from what I hear.

The only thing for me is a larger avatar, really. :/

As for supporting the website... I don't know how the revenue from ad banners work but I think since I visit the site so often it earns more than $20 a year from me anyway...

I joined the publisher club on a matter of ethics.

Not the post made by The Escapist, though I still think a formal declaration of ethical standards is a good thing for any outlet to have.

It's more my own.

That is, if you find a place that you value, you support it.

I was gonna say $20 is too much, but come think of it I wouldn't pay for a membership, so I'm clearly not interested.

I had it once but never bothered getting it again. Realistically it doesn't really do anything, though I did like the replacement ads.
