I guess the presenter thinks that people over 30 should be starting families etc. What he obviously doesn't realise is that the reason why the gaming age demographic is so high is because starting families these days is heavily tied into gaming - you start playing computer games as something to do while minding your kids, then they get older and you start playing computer games with your kids. Then they get even older, move out of home and instead of ringing them up to catch up (because your kids have only got mobile phones so fuck those high phone charges), you both fire up an online game and talk that way because it's cheaper than a long distance phone call. Gaming is part of family life and culture whether people realise it or not.
I'm 31 and have been playing video games since I was 4. It's a great way to waste time and relax, I've always thought so and this shall continue. This is just another example of people who are out of touch with contemporary society. As others have mentioned, these people are incapable of grasping the notion that we also do other things, like reading and watching films. It probably would shock them to discover that some of us are married and have jobs.

It's a cognitive disconnection. They can't relate what they think of as 'gaming' with whatever little causal timesinks they play with. 'Course a lot of gamers suffer from that same disconnection, they just use it as the basis for other biases.Mister Shield said:

My fellow video game enthusiasts, just ignore them. If I learned anything in life, it's that there really is no definitive normal. Besides, crap like this has happened numerous times before, it's a phase, it'll pass.
I wish there were more gamers over 30. Everything about gaming would be more mature if the majority of gamers were older. The market, the "culture", the community. It would be brilliant.

Can you get to old for board games? They're still games. No, you don't. No matter what form of entertainment it is... people relax in different ways.
