Poll: Games that should be turned into movies

Games and moives are two entertainment items that are closely related (like cousins) but should never be merge'd (like cousins) Movies that become games are cr@p (look at the Potter games, Toy Story, ET etc) and games that become movies are just as bad (Res Evil, Alone in the Dark, Mario etc)

I'd like to see a Time Splitters movie. There's a lot that could be done with it.

And considering how well Prince of Persia was done (hey, I liked it!) I'd like to see them make a movie based on Assassin's Creed.

I still think a Legend of Zelda movie could be done well.

im going to say none. Movies studios and movie makers have shown time and again that they dont understand the properties that they licence (example:Uncharted).

they are also written very differently(im sure there is an extra credits that touches on this) and the fact that everything in a game is already digital they can really let loose with the action and not have to worry about an "Effects budget". games also aren't restricted by a time limit of 1.5-3 hours, they can do more to connect you to the character through story telling.

the last thing i want to say is that most studios are still trying to reclaim losses after the "global finacial crisis" and as such they are pretty much only going to make "Safe" movies. meaning formulaic, bland, run of the mill stories you're sure you've seen before. expectt his for the next 2 or three years untill something they consider "risky" makes a buttload of money and wins some awards.

Dungeon Keeper.. The story of a young upcomming overlord fighting against the capitalism of the modern-day adventurers and making a communist-demon soceity where ALL DEMONS are equal. Except for workers who are slaves and the Overlord who's supreme ruler.

Sadly, the way to 'almost' total equality is filled with obstacles. Fellow Overlords try and hinder your plans by TEAMING UP! With the evil surface dwellers. Brought together by the Dwarven King Goldbeard IV. "Ruler of the richest on gold parts of the underground Kingdom of Dwarves"

On the way the Overlord captures a human who he keeps in a prison as his slavegirl but she eventually manages to bring something good up inside of him and the fight suddenly goes, not towards ruling the underworld as a supreme overlord. But conquering the above aswell! "Because bringing equality to the underworld just aint good enough"

The movie will be a trilogy. Taking over the demonworld. Defeating the dwarves. Taking over the Surfaceworld. The third however will never come out since the man acting as Dungeon Lord suddenly gets a heart attack while they are filming and a new actor was never found.

Ambition, drama. Love. Friendship. Brotherhood - Dungeon Keeper!

Edit: We could add this scene where the Dungeon Lord looses his best friend "Pit Lord" like halfway through. In an epic battlescene with the fat blob holding off hundreds of paladins so the Dungeon Lord and his Minions can escape from the trap alive.

i agree with the dungeon keeper being made into a film and it would be epic, but as for the rest.... meh.

The Half Life series, only hiccup will be.. Who plays Gordon Freeman and how are they going to make a movie with a silent main character? I see potential though.

If I were to personally oversee the project such that it wouldn't create a sucky movie, my vote would probably go for a GTA or Saints Row 2 sort of thing, because how can you fuck it up?

It's a deeply satirical world that parodies American culture while following the lives of gangsters engaging in hilariously over the top violence but still underneath it all telling a story that has moments of real dramatic poignancy, with more death and betrayal than you can shake a stick at.

Bioshock. All videogame movies fail because the videogames from which they come have mediocre stories. If someone ADAPTS a story driven game like Bioshock to the big screen, than it has got a ton of potential.

Solely to go against the Escapist userbase:

NOT Mass Effect
NOT Dead Space

How about logic, Mass Effect wouldn't translate well at all since it is about user decision.

Dead Space on the other hand could be as good as the original Aliens movies but will probably be lost in translation and turn out more like Pandorum.

Gears of War would to be frank a fantastic film. If it's done right of course.

Gears Could work very well but would be terribly easy to screw up, especially if they push for a pg-13 rating just to sell more.

If say Peter Jackson picked up Dragon Age it could easily translate into a 3-6 movie series and come fairly close to the quality of Lord of the Rings.

Duke Nukem. Why? Because the concept is so simple, that as long as they don't add sappy Hollywood drama, it should be perfect material to simply translate into a movie. I'm not a huge Duke Nukem fan, but i know that the series rides on the Duke's extreme machismo personality.

Duke is a perfect summer action movie.
