Another thing to add. Dumbing down doesn't always improve sales. See Fable 3 and Dragon Age 2.

Sales for DA 2 were improved though.

Improved from what? By all reports it sold a million less than Origins and by some 1.5 million less. I know VGchartz is a based on polls so its not accurate but its closer than what publisher report shipped and the scale in comparison to other games is more accurate.
