I think we've all been there at least once.

You're playing a game, everything is going well, you can't find much to dislike about it...

...and then you drop it and never return.

Is it because of a sudden change in pace? Did another game consume your time and attention? What games have you dropped, and why?

I dropped Final Fantasy VI about 25 hours in. The game's pacing changed (you know what I mean if you've played it), college was taking up all my time, and I found out that I needed to grind for about 3 hours... so I never had the motivation to pick it up again.

Until now. I recently started playing the game again, from the start (I can't just "hop" back into a game several months after dropping it), and I will not allow myself to drop it this time around. I'm enjoying it a lot more now too. I feel like I'm playing it in a way such that I can appreciate it a lot more than the first time around.

So how about you?

The only time I can remeber dropping a game I loved entirely is because I went on to other games, came back and felt terrible at it. I was unwilling to "get good" again, so I dropped it. The game was Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

I've dropped a couple of the Zelda games before, usually because real life gets in the way, and then by the time I've come back to them I can't remember what I was doing so I have to start all over again.

If a game fails to entertain me, and begins to feel like a chore I might drop it as well, because then the game's failed in its main goal - to entertain.

I was going to just say I do like your avatar, but then it reminded me of Final Fantasy IV DS which, appropriately enough, I dropped because I felt it was the weakest version of the game - and then I picked it back up again in the form of Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection on PSP.

Fallout New Vegas.
According to steam ive played for 128 hours.
Ive made two characters but accross both of them ive never actually finished the game.
Whenever i get close, a new game comes out and i start playing that, and then forget about NV :(

Heh glad you noticed that :D

I *almost* dropped Final Fantasy IV DS, before the Magnetic Cavern if I recall correctly. I couldn't find the cavern and quite frankly I didn't have any motivation to play *any* games... but I sucked it up and kept going, and enjoyed the game!

I never played any other version of IV, and in fact Final Fantasy IV on DS was the first Final Fantasy game I ever played. I really enjoyed playing it, but if I were to play it again then I would definitely play the PSP version. The graphics are nice and simple, plus it has Interlude and The After Years! :D

Unfortunately I don't have a PSP, so I'm really hoping the collection gets remastered for PS3 or at least added to PSN.

Maybe that was the difference. I've played pretty much all the Final Fantasy games, not to mention 4 different versions of IV - there's the SNES original, the epic GBA version, the equally awesome PSP one and the (in my opinion) awful DS version. If you manage to play the PSP version, I have a feeling that you'll find it rather easy - the DS version has excessive amounts of grind, whereas the PSP one doesn't.

Speaking of which, I dunno whereabouts you're from, but I managed to pick up a PSP for £30 in a second-hand store, so you might be able to find one knocking around somewhere on the cheap.

Just to keep this on topic, I reckon Final Fantasy games are one of those game series that I almost always get to the point of dropping, and then never do. It's weird, but I guess that makes them damn good games.

I don't see how I did it looking back, but I dropped Dragon Age: Origins for a while during the Orzammar portion because of how much is dragged on. Mind you dropping it was just stopping for a few weeks while something else distracted me.

I stopped playing a few Final Fantasy games because of how pacing was as well.

Black Ops: Spawn system was totally fucked at the beginning, and it turned me off of the game entirely. Sniping was also completely and utterly ruined in this game, and sniping is why I play Call of Duty.

Fallout 3: It's alright, but I finally couldn't stand the slow pace anymore. I have no idea why everyone slobbers all over this game's dick. It's soooooo slooooooooooooooow.

I dropped Disgaea: Hour of Darkness during the third or so chapter, after the fight with Flonne's dragon. However much I enjoyed it, I just lost interest very, very rapidly after that point. I don't know why, and I really want to start playing again. The only problem is, starting a new game is rather awkward, since you're so used to being stupidly powerful, and have to go back to your strongest attack doing like 17 damage.

I dropped only two game. Prinny, as it was to insanely hard, and I fucked up all my 1000 before the 7th boss [it is simply stupidly hard].
And disgaea. After the 50th floor of the 4 weapon I was training, when I kind of lost all my high level team mate. Relevel them up from 1 to 4500? Ha. Yes man.

It's kind of sad. The story of both game was cute, light and comical, even if sometime they had some deep part. Curse you nippon icchi and your devilish hard game.

Quote. Well, I think that nippon icchi is to insane with the difficult/grind part. They really dstroy the posiblity to call american game hard. Bha, ipocrisy. Try Prinny in netherworld finnest. Everything Oneshot you.

Coincidentally Final Fantasy IV, VI and Resonance of Fate are also on my list of games that are half finished. IV I got to this dungeon with a ridiculous level increase and I couldn't be bothered to grind. VI and Resonance of Fate I was just busy at the time.

Valkyria Chronicles was also on the list until I finally started playing it again on sunday. I like the characters and story in it, and even the gameplay, but it gets rather monotonous constantly doing battle after battle after battle with only a few scenes inbetween to break it up. Which is why I quit playing it before.

The last game I remember dropping after hours of loving it, was Scribblenauts. Super cool for the first couple days, then got really old really fast.

My wife made me drop minecraft for a week just to see if i could.

Me and S.L.A.I. have a love-hate relationship. I play it for 2 months drop it for awhile and then come back, repeat. don't know if that counts though.

well, i tend to be the type of person who gets really into something, and then drop it entirely. i use to be a cod freak, and then me and a few friends got into steam because l4d2 was on sale and we only had ps3s. after a few months of no stop pc gaming, i got really into tf2, for a year or so. then i had a craving for an rts game, bought the original starcraft for 10 dollars, loved it so i bought the second. and as of late, i went from being in low bronze leuge ( the worst you can be) to high platinum (dead in the middle) but i have been rising fast, and i should be in diamond leuge soon. unlss i find a new game that is.
