Depends on the game.

RPGs or Adventure games I can easily play for 12 hours at a time. On the other hand, Bladestorm: Hundred Years War (which is like Dynasty Warriors), while I enjoy it, I tend to only play for shorter time periods at a time.

That said, I find I need to get my fingers used to a game's control scheme--so too short of a session doesn't let me get acclimatized to being in the mechanics zone.

So, too short is no good. Too long means I'm probably slacking in other parts of my life.

I played DA2 for > 10 hours with only toilet breaks the other day.

I use to play DotA with more vigour than any job I've ever had and I also had a WoW stint that would see me playing greater than 18 hours on occasion, with an average of 3 hours a day allowing for work days.

I also have a habit of overdoing things, like when ever my partner and I get a new DVD box set I'll say "Another episode?" after each episode until 4:30 am when she invariably says "FUCK OFF WITH YOUR FUCKING EPISODES! I'M TIRED AS BALLS, AND HAVE WORK IN LESS THAN 4 HOURS!"

I also had a ridiculous binge drinking problem when I moved into town (Within stumbling distance of the best pubs and only club near by) due to my lack of an ability to acknowledge my limits.

I managed to go without a car for about 3 months due to spending all of my money on booze. Lucky for me I liked my bike :).

So maybe my opinion is less valid for the purpose of finding general consensus, but perhaps I'm not as strange as I think I am.

Depends on the person; I can play for ten hours straight, my friend does about two hours, gets bored or something and goes away and does something else; that said, he's racked up 137 hours of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer, 157 hours of Empire Total War and 62 hours of R.U.S.E just to give examples. He's possibly a more avid gamer than me, even though I play the PC or Xbox 360 every day, he just likes a break. Some people prefer breaks; my friend justifies it by saying it makes the time you spend gaming more fun and less routine.
