Oh god, the moment of bliss I had playing dark souls 2 on the pc after 200 hours on the xbox.

It was like trying to turn a car with rusted wheels vs the smoothest lexus ever.
My friend became a pc believer when he felt the difference too. When your playing a game on the console, then go to pc with controller and compare the two...its beyond orgasmic.

Come play on the PS4 with me, we don't have a reputation like the PC or Xbone.

I became a console believer when I bought Skyrim and 2 video cards and it still didn't work but a console always will, and having to piss around with Xpadder to get my controller to work. When you're try to play a game on the PC, and then you simply slide that disc into the PS4's soft silky and not sexual imagery disc tray and it just works... It's beyond orgasmic.

I don't mind the slower response time when playing on the Xbox 360/Playstation 4. I don't have particularly quick reaction times anyway and, whereever possible, avoid situations in games that require fast rotary actions.

I remember not being able to play a Splinter Cell game a number of years ago because my PC was using an inbuilt graphics chipset, which wasn't supported by the game. I recall having to take the game back to the store I bought it from. The stable hardware platform is, in my view, one of the main advantages of console gaming.

I recall Simon of the Yogscast having similar issues over Rage a few years ago because he had an ATi graphics card, rather than an nVidia one.

To be honest, the fault lies with the games developer for not conducting proper testing and being over-reliant on functionalities present in one manufacturer's graphics card over another's. This is done, partly, to make the game look better. As a compromise, consoles don't have the same peak level of graphical quality, but they are more stable.

Game consoles aren't being released every year, this thread doesn't have a reason to exist.

This is exactly why I don't PC game, and I'm a freaking computer tech. I know how fix PC problems, but I don't want to waste my time fixing the problems. Everyone's time is limited, I'd rather spend my game time playing games vs fixing games. All I see on these forums is Watch Dogs PC port is horrible, Dark Souls PC port is horrible, etc. Yet, PC gaming is orgasmic.

Voted no by mistake as I didn't read the question thoroughly. Anyways I believe we've had a nice long period for the Xbox One and PS4 to come out. 8 years or so is a pretty nice time to wait. Now, I know that sometimes consoles are rushed and that sucks. If consoles came out every year, the gaming world would probably implode. A 5 year period or more is ideal for new consoles I believe.

As the other said already .. it is more a 7 year cycle. Maybe if you included hand helds or revisions.

But even revisions only show up every 2-3 years. A PS3 fat, a PS3 slim, a ps3 Superslim and all that in 6 years. So about each two years a "new" console. As more in a revision.

And mobile platforms do not count.. they are mobile platforms and have their own launch schedule.

So far yes we have seen almost yearly a revision of a console or a handheld. But that is spread over all three brands And again REVISIONS. A revision is not a whole new console.

A revision in many cases is not even a worthy upgrade since it is not an upgrade. Now if you go from launch hardware to the first revision, in what they deal with a few problems that only showed up after 2 million people bought one you might get the biggest gain. As in.. certain known flaws are fixed. And for many people it is actually the first revision they buy not the launch hardware.

So if you take out the whole issue with revisions then you have around 6-7 years of console generation prime time. After that a few years 2-3 in what the older console that is "replaced" still gets some games and content but slowly is set to "die"

And this time we we're waiting for something new. Oh my for the last two years we we're like "Yeah.. maybe it would be nice to have the next generation soon..just asking" Because we had met the walls. The point where dimished returns caused a huge rise in time/money to get more performance out of the systems.

The PS4 and Xbox One are still young, still not fully understood. Even though they have allot of what a PC does. And should be easier to make games for.. they are still consoles with quirks.

So my idea is that the optimal understanding of the console can be reached within 2 years. No need to study for 4 years on some kind of strange hardware to get the most out of it. No..this is closer to PC hardware so it should be allot easier to extract power out of it.

And lets be fair you don't have to buy a gameconsole at all, or right when it comes out. Truth is that if you wait 2 years... usually the console is both having to deal with less broken parts. There will be games out for it and it will be cheaper. Though I expect that the PS4 will remain around $400, the xbox one already has gone down in price so. And the WiiU, ah yeah well..

OP, if you get yourself a job, just stop worrying about consoles completely and learn about PC gaming, since you'll be able to afford the initial costs. You'll save a ton of money in the long run, and you won't have to worry about what the big 3 are doing with their consoles anymore.

On the other hand, if you are compelled to get the latest and greatest tech all the time, then maybe going with a PC would be a bad idea.

It's the longevity of consoles that makes them appealing in the first place, since it's a longer period of time before you need to upgrade. There was roughly 6-7 years between the last generation and the current generation, and there's a good chance that the current ones may last even longer than that due to the loss-leader market approach where consoles cycles are stretched out to allow publishers to recoup hardware losses on game sales.

Not the ideal situation for the industry, but I'd say it works pretty well for consumers because it means they don't have to constantly upgrade their machine. You can buy an Xbox 360 in 2006 and (leaving aside the obvious RROD issues) still be playing newly-released triple A games on it today. You can't really do that with a PC.

I don't disagree, but at the same time, I think the only game in my library that's been FUBAR since I got a new card two years ago is Saints Row 2. And since that didn't get the DLC, it's not what I would call the definitive version anyway. Granted, my tastes swing in a different direction than most.

I've spent very little time making my games work is what I'm saying. of course, there's a bias of selection there, too--when I know a game as funtionality issues, I've been likely to either avoid it or buy it on console.

The last gen was the longest yet about 7 years or so. Think the OP might need to start taking his meds again.
I'm not really in a great hurry to get a PS4 as I'm quite happy with my 360 for now but I'll get one eventually like in a year or so. I'm buying upgrades for my PC right now so the ps4 can wait but I'm pretty sure I'll be happy with it once I get around to buying one. seven or eight years ish, is a good long time between console purchases, I really don't see a problem there
