Poll: Gaming Online and Drinking. Does it count as drinking alone?

I would say yes. But then, there's nothing wrong with drinking alone, just like there's nothing wrong with smoking alone, laughing alone, or masturbating.
I don't know where this idea came from that it means you're depressed or whatever, but it makes little sense. You still get the same buzz regardless. The only difference is you don't have people around to act stupidly in front of, and as long as you don't get blackout drunk, what's the problem?

Drinking and dialing is drinking alone. Drinking and chatting online is drinking alone. So yes, drinking and playing online is definitely drinking alone.

Please tell me you don't consider online communication to actually be a part of your social life.

I think its drinking alone. Call it what you want but your still at home alone, drinking and playing video games. I do it a bit but not that often dont want to get into the habit of it.

A lot of people are getting the impression that I'm a friendless neck-beard because I enjoy drinking when doing a little owning. I want to make clear now that I do have friends in real life, and I in no way consider gaming to be a part of my social life. If presented with the opportunity to go to a bar/party, or stay at home and get drunk with my online friends, I would no doubt go to the bar. However, it's not like there is something going on EVERY weekend, so I don't feel that drinking while gaming is that big of a deal.

I don't know, and I don't care. People are too concerned with doing things on their own, in other forums I've seen discussions about how pathetic it would be to eat or go to a movie alone. Really? Calm down, not every single moment of your life needs to be spent with other human beings.

But if you drink one beer by your computer one evening you're on the road to becoming an alcoholic, while getting yourself so drunk that you can't remember your name on a weekend is completely fine, because you didn't do it alone. Yep.

Hell, mostthe time when I drink I'm alone. I don't like being around other people while not in complete control. Maybe that's just my OCD, but still...

When I'm with friends, I usually just have a Coke or something else non-alcoholic. Also contributing is the fact that my friends and I usually end up having way to much to drink, and I hate being drunk. I like taste of some alcoholic drinks (scotch and wine with certain things), but I don't like being drunk, and I absolutely hate being hungover.

And that is because I'm polish and I'm allowed to do that.

I don't know how this dissolved so quickly into a couple people battling for supremacy on an internet forum. But I'd like some more opinions "ON TOPIC"

Theres no doubt in my mind that you are in the most literal definition of the term "alone" when you drink while gaming, I.E there is no one else in the room (save my cat)

But is it any more acceptable that I'm at least socializing (in the loosest of terms) with other people?

I've had a few drinks while playing WoW and on vent with my guild before. I got to drink and socialize with my friends, and it made dailies bearable. Win-win.

I fail to see how drinking alone or drinking in a group is different. Both involve drinking a poisonous substance that negatively affects your self control and ability to function as you normally would.

If you want to drink with a group of people who want to drink, or alone, it doesn't matter the setting.. All that matters is that you don't negatively affect ANYONE who has not explicitly consented to being involved in those activities.

If you're drinking with a bunch of mates playing WoW or something and everyone is involved, fine. If you're drinking while PUGing, go to hell.
