Poll: Gaming & partying & wasting time.

I'd hate to be the 'why not have both' guy, but it pretty much sums up my thoughts. You essentially have two days and three nights on weekends, that is plenty of time for both.

Of course, if you don't enjoy going out or drinking in general I can understand I guess, I just so happen to enjoy it (in small doses anyway, I wouldn't go out two nights in a row). Party Friday night, game on Saturday night is a good breakdown for me, then a university cram session on Sunday haha.

Combine the two and that's when it's at its best though. Some mates, a couple of cartons of beer and a couple of Xbox's hooked up for some local multiplayer in Halo/Call of Duty/, now that's a party.

That. A party without games is booooorring! A party WITH games = recipe for instant success!

There should be a third option, which would be party and play games, because that's what I usually do. Nothing can beat a good old-fashioned lan party. Grab a few (dozen) beers, the best of friends and a weekend of time to play and have fun. That's amusement brought to life!

It kinda depends. I don't really party as such, but I enjoy going out to the pub with a group of mates and having a few drinks and playing some pool. Most of the time I'd rather do that than settle in for the night gaming. I don't have gamer friends, so it'd be a solo venture for me, something I don't mind for a short spell or when I'm at my parents' place, but it gets to me otherwise.

Ideally there'd be a group of friends, a lot of food, maybe or maybe not alcohol, and whatever entertainment we could get our hands on in the house.

That's possibly me saying both options...

"No time is wasted that is enjoyed." To put it another way, they're both fun activities, so neither are really a waste of time. Also, what is it with all the anti-alcohol opinions on this site? I understand if your parents are alcoholics or something, but most of you just come off as prudes. Sure, I /can/ enjoy myself without alcohol, and often do, but alcohol is a wonderful mood enhancer -- whatever you enjoy sober, you enjoy ten fold while drunk.

Plus, I'm sorry, but it really is sad if you never hang out with IRL friends. Now that can be at a party, a LAN party, a movie night, or what have you, but the point is if your only source of socialization is the internet, something is wrong.

I prefer gaming. Big social events aren't really my thing, so just hanging out playing some Marvel Vs Capcom with a mate is preferable to going to a party for me. Not to say that parties or events can't be enjoyable, but I tend to stay away.

While I do definitely prefer gaming than partying (yes I did experience the latter which I don't see the appeal being in a loud enviroment, deliberately damaging your liver and being covered in sweat) but I don't see gaming all the time to be good either. All I can say is that I had missed out meeting some ladies. I suppose trying to go out every once in a while couldn't hurt (unless it did go wrong on the night you choice to go out).

I've been out of highschool for 11 years, & I'm sure this hasn't changed much, but teen logic dictated that parties = fun & if you did not party, you had no life. My experience with parties was boredom, my observation was that you had to either be high, drunk, or absolutely guaranteed to get laid to actually enjoy them, & if you're dependent on a drugs & alcohol to have fun, then exactly who is the one with no life?

I can actually see going on a raid in a game with a bunch of friends, or having 1 or 2 buddies come over for classic multiplay being a far more enjoyable & constructive "waste" of time than anything you can do at a party (short of getting laid, which isn't likely for most of the attendees). & exactly how is gaming a "waste" of time? Should be be out farming, cooking, cleaning house, & building cat trees to take up our free time?

So it's Friday night & you have a new game & were invited to a party. Whcih are you going with?

I currently have a girlfriend, so the getting laid part isn't really any issue.

I don't drink because I refuse to be like my father and I don't do drugs because fuck that.

Parties have never really been my scene anyway. Like the OP said, mostly they equate to boredom, sitting or standing around making awkward conversation with random strangers and assholes you never intend to socialize with beyond that point. I find it far more enjoyable to spend that time at home, just relaxing, or hanging out with my actual friends driving around aimlessly and just shooting the shit.

I enjoy going to a party, heading out to pub/bar/club with friends, but frankly, I only do that every once and a while. Where I game a significant portion of the time I am not at work.

Games are not time sensitive. They will still be there a decade from now.

Thus, the only logical, not-retarded, answer is to go to the party because that's the only way you can have *both*.

I used to party every single weekend. Day after day, getting fu'd up and raising hell. This went on for some time.

But now... I grew bored of it. I have little to no interest in that sort of lifestyle anymore, and I believe I'm completely burned out on it. This is only my own feelings towards it, and having lived that sort of lifestyle for some time; I can say for a fact that I know and understand the appeal of it. I still, on 'special' occasions will attend a get-together, join a friend at a bar, or go fuck with sum hoes in tha club.

But on a personal level, I just don't want to party anymore because I grew tired of it. I was always an introvert, and parties quickly more and more tiring than fun, and all 'bad' things about parties started to become more and more grating. I don't want to be around all that drama, drunk ass fools starting fights, gunshots, and running away from cops anymore. I'm too old for that shit now.

These days, I'd much rather hang back with a group of friends and pounding a few casual brews while we all play a game together or watch movies. And I have no reservations about playing a game all night on a Friday than partying.

But hey, that's just me. I've had my fill of parties, but I never have my fill of games! Especially new ones!

LAN party, best of both worlds! Although right now I'm really only limited to Halo, because most people I know can't bring computers and everyone has Halo. But at least Forge mode makes it easy to make maps for people to play on!

I love partying, I love drinking. I also love gaming, alone or with others. Personally the true waste of time is work. Unless you enjoy your work it is something that wastes your precious time on this planet. It is obviously necessary though, so I'm not advocating that you live off the social. Although, I suppose having to work does make the fun parts more enjoyable?

My usual circle of friends are all keen gamers. Thus, we combine the two.

Drunk Halo/CoD accompanied by music is very, very fun. And noisy. And just plain funny, too.

alot of close friends + a few new people at a place i'm familiar with and somewhat like at least? (i hate huge crowded parties, so that's why i said just a few.)

i'll probably choose the party, i tend to have alot of fun at those kinds.

however, if it is a new rpg that i've been drooling from the mouth over for a month or so, i'll definitely consider staying home and pulling an all nighter to play it.

Perhaps because the most common "adult drink" is beer, and beer is fucking awful in so many parts of the world. I feel sorry for Americans for that reason. In my country it's hundreds of times better than American beer, and it still sucks.

And if your problem is alcohol, then non-alcoholic beer is even worse: the disadvantage of the taste with no advantage of the alcohol.

I have lost count on how many of my friends won't touch beer until they are completely shit-faced with vodka. Even Jim Sterling said in one Podtoid that he has to be under the influence to enjoy beer.

About the anti-alcoholic opinions:

- Some of them might have had bad experiences (read: "taken advantage of", take it any way you want to interpret it)

- It's hilarious when one or two guys are drunk in a group, but if you're in the middle of a group of drunk people it's terrible. Put a clean person in the middle of people tweaking on crystal meth, it's that awful. Don't forget designated drivers.

- Peer pressure: when other people want you to do it, it's probably wise not to

- People who hate it because of the portrayal of the "highschool" stereotypes on TV, realistic or not

- Hipsters (alcohol is too mainstream)

- Maybe they just don't like being under the influence/doesn't "do" anything for them, everyone is entitled to his tastes

- Alcohol is a depressant. I.E. you are not supposed to take it if you want your senses tuned in. If you have to walk back home at night drunk you won't even be able to avoid the muggers. Or you might get your ass kicked because you can't fight for shit.

- Again, maybe alcoholic drinks just taste horribly to someone, and they don't want to be seen with those girly drinks.

- Money. Adult drinks can be overpriced in the places around them. Probably it would be more cost-effective to just drink isopropanol at home and go party after that.

- Maybe the places suck and the "friends" suck, and no way alcohol is going to change that

- Concealed Carry - license holders in America are supposed to not have the gun before entering a bar/club and while under the influence they can't carry it anymore. Essentially turning the gun into an expensive hammer that must stay in the car while there are "nails sticking out the board", if you get what I mean.

To me alcohol is not like weed. I don't think that things get funnier. People don't become any nicer.

I can be a little hostile when sober, but drinking I doesn't make me any friendlier either. If you want a guy ruining the mood Max Payne 3 style and possibly headbutt others, make me hit the bar.

You're entitled to your opinion on alcohol and to enjoy it in the way you can, but there's no need to call people "prude" over the silliest thing ever - what they like to drink.
