Ok, maybe I need to clarify some things.

First: I am only putting this topic up here to test the waters as of such

Second: When I say Kotick, I do actually mean Activision in general

Third: I'm not talking boycott I'm saying gamers as a community stand up against games that are half baked and force you to buy a map pack/DLC to squeeze every penny out of you.

Fourth: I am aware that Activision are most certainly not the only company to do this, but if per chance we did see a dent in sales of CoD because of DLC, then I reckon a few other companies would think twice about doing it them selves.

oh, and one more thing CoD:4 is actually one of my favourite games ever. So don't assume that I'm saying this stuff because I'm sick of shooters. Im saying this because I want CoD be great again.

Kotick is nothing but a common thief. Yes he makes great money, at the expense of quality. Hes driven the overall creativity of his company into the ground. Its just a large photocopier. I for one don't buy his companies games anymore, haven't for a while. And I don't see myself changing that stance anytime soon.

Well I already don't buy Activision games but that's because they haven't made a game i'm interested in. Just buy Battlefield 3, it looks way better (in my opinion) and it's multiplayer is free. (I assume the subscription fees Activision is adding is what this is about)
Activision is not charging a Subscription fee to play multiplayer, or for any extra content that changes in game Multiplayer in any way.

The "Elite" Service is really just amped up statistics and videos of your in game footage, plu less money for the DLC.
As far as I'm aware DLC is supposed to be free if you subscribe.

OT: All I want is for CoD to go back to way it way. Right now they are destroying the franchise and killing it slowly. The original team that made the game isn't even there any more and I doubt the spirit of IW is still around. They bring out a new game every year with minor changes. Everything(as far as I know I didn't play it) that was in MW2 bar the shield was already in other games or there in the form of mods. They even took out standard features from the PC version ie dedicated servers and Lean.

Then we also have WaW where the only thing it added to the series was Nazi zombies and they brought back gas nades. Other than that and flamethrowers multiplayer was exactly the same as CoD 4. Now we come to BO which has fucking tiny maps that make Snipers redundant and the worst selection of imbalanced killstreaks ever. For me BO went too far after I gave the series another chance for dedis. So unless it undergoes massive changes I won't touch that thing again.

I don't buy Activision games anyway.

Last one I bought was Tony Hawks Underground 2. That crap is old.

Yeah, I think it's time you stepped back into the real world where idealistic stuff like that would and could never happen.

If the man was as much of a nut as Cave Johnson literally try to make a grenade out of a lemon I still doubt they would let him go...lol

Kotick may be the head of Activision but not buying their games, does him absolutely no harm. He has so much money he can retire anytime he wants. The ones getting the heat are the devs. I wanna play MW3 so I will buy it down the line. I won't let a pig like him stop me from enjoying something I like. He didn't make the game.

Still, I know when I am being cheated so I still haven't bought the maps for MW2. Kotick's influence on anything is something so blatantly obvious (15 bucks for maps, removal of LAN for Starcraft) that I know when to avoid. You just know you are dealing with a moron when he doesn't even bother to cover his tracks...

Also, COD Elite? What has he been sniffing for the past 7 years or so? Bungie has all this for free. Goes to show...

As much as the gaming community seems to hate him, I can't think of a single decision he's spearheaded which hasn't worked out well.

Yes, he does screw gamers over, but In just the right way that the majority still take it. He's a truly excellent businessman, and I don't think his success up till this point has been just luck or the 'patience of gamers'. He knows how to walk the line, he can turn the screw on his customers without them biting back. Which in business, is a great success.

A better approach is to buy the games you like, hence encouraging games to be made in a similar manner as well as of a similar style. If Activision released an amazing game I would buy it as it will encourage them to continue.

I have a problem with this, and that is that it's bullshit. Not just the idea of a boycott, but the entire idea of hating Bobby Kotick.

Everything he says and does is twisted to make him look evil, but he hasn't really done anything to warrant all that hatred.

*snippity*

Hating Kotick is a bandwagon, and bandwagons are always idiotic.
Activision buys out entire development teams, strips out a handful of the lead developers, then disbands the company. Forcing up to hundreds of game developers into unemployment, where they likely cannot find any more work. Those few who do stay are forced onto projects without any consideration, and usually on whatever sequel has the highest estimated profit, sticking as closely to the original as possible. Koticks patented "depth-first approach" (as he calls it) is the cause of all this, he gloats about it. The man is single handedly killing innovation in the video game industry.

You justify that, in any context, as something that doesn't "warrant all that hatred."

I like CoD and I'll continue to buy an Activision game if I enjoy it. Like everyone else already said; boycotts only hurt the Devs, now Kotick. However, Kotick is a bastard. Yes, he knows how to make money, but the shit he does is like putting a tax on air. Look at CoD Elite for example. This is something Bungie already do and what DICE are planning to do with Battlefield 3. I loved the E3 announcement; "it will offer complete stat-tracking and will be absolutely free". I c wut u did der.

If I was going to try and get rid of anyone, it'd be Jack Tretton or John Riccitiello. Of course, I know that I can't do a damn thing about that (especially boycoots; not buying the games is only going to hurt me. it's not going to do anything to them), so I'm not even going to try. I'm just going to hope they both go away sooner rather than later.

I'm already not buying from them. Haven't touched an Activision published title since CoD4. They're making leaps and bounds in the wrong direction and unfortunately other big name publishers are following them.

62 percent willing to boycott??? LMAO

To be fair, the way the poll is worded makes the result meaningless. It's not a boycott if you weren't planning on buying their games anyway. And if 62% of people are saying they would boycott games they like, then we're just dealing with full on delusion.
