Now i'm not saying I fully believe in ghosts, but I used to work at pizza hut in york (for those who don't know york is considered one of england's most haunted cities) located next door to what is 'apparently' York's most haunted building and my experience goes like this:

I was busy on a clean shift vaccuuming the restaurant floor. there was only me there, minus the guy working in the kitchen in the back. as I was vaccuuming through the middle of the restaurant, i turned around and the menu stand by the door (in case you haven't seen one it's a 4-foot tall wooden thing that weighs a tonne) had appeared about 10 inches behind me.

Bearing in mind I saw this menu stand literally about 15 seconds before this happened. I have to rule out the guy in the kitchen because to come out of the kitchen, go across the restaurant without me seeing him, carrying a menu stand that usually takes 2 people to carry, and get back in the kitchen (again without me noticing) in 15 seconds is pretty-much impossible.

That's the only experience i've ever had but I've had a few customers reporting some strange goings on and the managers have also seen or heard some strange things. I know we can explain some of the things with electromagnetic fields, interdimensional rifts, etc etc, but after working for three years in that place it does give you reason to suspect that there's more to life than what we see.

Being a fair-minded and logical person, I'd say "No, until further evidence can be brought forward." But given where I go to school, it's hard not to believe.

See, the school used to be a death camp during Japanese occupation in World War II. Hundreds of people died on the grounds, and 60 years later, they STILL won't let people on campus past 9:30PM, mainly because people are terrified of what they claim to have seen. Never had an encounter myself, though.

I believe in ghosts. A LOT. My family are quite superstitious and my nana believes she can see ghosts, backed up with several scary stories with my mum as her witness.

.....it wasn't a good idea to play Fatal Frame. Now I sleep with the light on.

Yeaaaah. Ghosts, Santa and Jesus over there.*

*- Not saying Jesus wasn't real, a lot of religions claim that he existed. It's just that believing in such things is an equivalent of believing that you've got Jesus hidden in your closet.

maybe, but what gets to me is all the photos of people going "oooooooh look! ghosts!" when there's something that looks easily photoshoppable lurking somewhere in the background...

There was a theory that things like the wind cause vibrations in buildings. If the building vibrates at just the right frequency to match with the frequency that the eye works at, there can be visual effects, and of course you can get sounds with vibrations too. It was something like that, anyway.

Lots of random stuff happens in life. Doors get blown shut, branches hit windows, things that have been piled up badly can collapse long after they've been left alone with no-one near, lights from unknown sources bounce off surfaces and appear unexpectedly, then you get phenomena like St. Elmo's Fire and heaven knows whatever else.

These things can be misinterpreted, especially by someone superstitious, already nervous or afraid. Our culture has stories about ghosts, so the idea of one already exists in our brains. Something weird and surprising occurs, the imagination cooks up a ghost from the pre-existing influence, and in the unnerved state imagination blends with reality. Afterwards, post-rationalisation accepts the ghost to explain the strange event, possibly reinforced because someone admitting they got scared witless by a book falling off a shelf is a bit embarrassing.

Also, I think lots of people bullshit about ghosts even though they know they haven't seen one as a way of attention-seeking or entertaining themselves and others.

Plausible, but scary. If they are real I'd hate to know what they've seen me do. |:
It's the thought of invisible beings I don't like.

No, I don't believe in ghosts. When I was a lot younger I did, but have since grown out of it.

There's no such thing as ghosts. If there are things that cannot be explained by science, it's because science has yet to explode them sufficiently.

Pseudo-science is not science, and you should learn the difference between a theory and a hypothesis.

Ghost I don't know.

But there are things out there that science can't explain.

And I doubt that they ever will be able.

You're all stupid, of course they exist, I keep one in my fridge called terry, he drowned in beer you see, so he just stays in my fridge and watches my roomates beer. I also have a pet dragon named shirley and my own Jesus! *eye twitch*
Where did you get the Jesus? Is he the miracle making kind, or the cheaper, no miracles version?
