I love messing with the minds of people who ask me this question, because my answer to it goes thus:

"It's both. That half's full and that half's empty."

So does that make me a pessimist or an optimist? I prefer to think of myself as a more realistic sort of person (a realist?), neutral I guess you could say.

What do you think, Escapists? Are you a half full, half empty or both sort of person? Do you think it's better to be biased one way or the other, or impartial to both?

I say half full, I prefer to be optimistic. Being an optimistic person generally makes me a more positive person in general.

Im only going to say this once, If you are pouring into the glass its half full, if you are drinking from the glass its half empty. NONE OF THIS PESSIMISM/OPTIMISM GARBAGE. Well since im usually drinking half empty.

I'm going to be snarky and say that glass is twice as big as it needs to be. As for my actual opinion... it depends. Sometimes it seems half-full, other times half-empty.

It depends on whether it's been filled or emptied to half way. If it's been filled to half way, it's half full. If it's been emptied to half way, it's half empty.

So has the glass in question been filled or emptied last?

I say half full because usually if I'm gauging the amount in there, I'm filling it rather than emptying it.

I never really think in terms of full/empty though. I think "Only half my drink left? I should stop drinking so fast so I can put off getting up to get another one".
Yes, I'm that lazy.

It's full.

50% Water, 50% Air.

But well, I'm a pretty optimistic person so my proper answer would be 50% full.

THANK FUCK.

This user speaks the truth. If I take an empty glass and pour water into until the halfway point, I have half filled it. It is now half full.

If I drink half of a full glass, I have removed one half from a full glass. It is one half empty.

The pessimism/optimism thing gets me every dang time. People aren't 100% pessimistic or optimistic. People don't look down ravines and think, "I'm optimistic, I'm sure I'll survive this 300 foot drop onto jagged rock formations!", nor do people climbing into bed think, "I'm a pessimist, so I think my bed will collapse and skewer me on a shard of wood like a kebab."

Circumstances alter outlooks.

I've been a pessimist all my life, so half-empty I suppose. I go by the idea that if something bad happens a pessimist will always be less affected than an optimist. What with always expecting bad stuff to happen, obviously.

Neither and both, it is a glass and half its capacity is taken up by water. I can be satirically optimistic I guess? Although I am becoming more optimistic, a while back I would have definitely said half empty, but life is good, so now it is both :D
