As little fuss as possible with managing pary members and silly nilly tactics. Just me and my double headed war axe, head first into combat.
A game like skyrim or oblivion. Where I can just safely ignore all the things that aren't pointy things made for killing without it being detrimental to the gameplay.

Seriously man- Mount and Blade: Warband. It is all you need.
He says he doesn't want party management or fussing about with tactics, and the entire thread recommends Mount & Blade. Mount & Blade pretty strongly discourages just attacking things, which is what I think he's looking for. I takes a long time to get to sieges and warfare unless you just use cheats. Not specifically singling you out, Squilookle, just everyone seems to be ignoring this part of the OP.
Yup, you got the point. The videos i've seen of mount&blade are basically what i don't want. Whenever i get put into those kinds of open battles i feel like i'm only there as a token. I sometimes think i could put down the controller and let the AI war it out amonst themselves.
What i do want is me, alone, against a buttload of things that are trying to kill me.

Look up Bloodborne. Very fun, very bloody.
Thanks for the suggestion, but no thanks. I really didn't like dark souls and looking at footage of Bloodborne, I see very little difference between it and Dark Souls. It looks shinier and you have guns now. Guns that do nothing...
The boss fights, and the entire game, make me feel weak and underpowered. I have to hit a boss 40 times for it to go down, while it would have been clear that i understood the mechanics of the fight after the first ten hits.
And just to be clear, the difficulty of the game does not bother me. The fans and the community surrounding it bother me. Whenever you watch a youtube vid or a stream of any of these games, the comments are always filled with stuff like 'you suck, don't you know [arbitrary game fact #7516], it's said by [npc #621] if you talk to him 76 times!" and "lern2play nub". That put's me off the entire series of the game, forever. There's a toxic elitism in Dark souls, players who beat it feel unjustly superior because they feel like they beat a difficult game. I felt like after dark souls the devs only had fanservice in mind when creating a new game.
What i am looking for is games like this :
- Skyrim (double handed axe, and i almost never need anything else except the occasional healing potion)
- Oblivion (see above)
- God of War (if they fixed the fact that my swords need way too many hits to take down even the weakest enemies. Isn't kratos supposed to be powerful and strong?)
- Prince of Persia (the sands of time trilogy)
- Assassin's creed I and the Ezio games (and for the record, I don't like AC3 or any of them that came after that, the combat was still good and perfect, but all the bits inbetween were stripped of all fun. fuck naval combat, where are my narrow streets and rooftops?)
- Devil may cry series (but the same with the kratos problem, too many sword swings, too little impact)
I know these criteria sound confusing and harsh, but if it was easy to find what i'm looking for, i wouldn't have to ask around.
