So, this summer I played Shadow of the Colossus for the first time, and naturally I was filled with joy and praise and deliciousness and pink, soft, moist fluffyness.

But then I came to a ralization.. Ive almost always been atleast one generation behind.

For example, when the PS2 came out, i got my first console - the PSOne.
When the PS3 came out, I got the PS2.
A few years after the debut of the PS3, I get my first current-gen console (and oh my, PS3 Slim?)

On one hand, Ive played through a number of NES and SNES games, both when they were released and now, after I got a NES to accompany my PS3.

Im really behind. I played MGS for the first time eight years after it came out. I played Shadow of the Colossus four years after its release. I played Starcraft for the first time this year. I finished God of War just weeks ago!

All classics I could have and probably should have played as soon as they came out, but didnt, for some obscure reason. (Couldnt get a hold of it, didnt know it existed, etc.)

Can you relate to this, fellow escapists? Anyone?

(I dont mean just a few weeks, I mean YEARS after everyone already played that particular game.)

YES!
OH GOD IM NOT THE ONLY ONE!
Iv always been behind on Games.
I got a 64 while the Game Cube was out.
I had a Game Cube while the Wii was out.
And on both i played older cheaper games more than new ones.

The only things iv kept pretty up to date on are Handhelds, mostly because they are not as expensive as Consoles.

I usually pick one system at the start of a generation and stick with just the one until the others go down in price, so I'm certainly not one who's always got all the newest stuffs. I also do go back fairly often to replay older games I liked or to play ones I missed the first time around.

Yeah, the only current-gen console I have is a Wii, which I got for free, and very rarely ever play. I myself only started StarCraft this year, and I played the MGS series last year (though I borrowed MGS4/PS3 from a mate a few months ago). I'm more of a PC gamer, and even then newer games are leaving my poor little system in the dust.

Personally, I always wait for lower prices. I have a family to support, mortgage to pay, insurance, ect. I don't have tons of disposable income nor daddy's trust fund to toss about. So I don't always stay "up to date".

And from what I've seen from the current game market, I haven't missed that much.

Yeah, I suppose guys like us have a privilege to go back and choose what we want to play, being older and more appreciative of the games, from the massive library of games that weve been given due to our.. falling-behind-ness.

Most Defiantly.
I feel luck that i got the chance to play Games like Link's Awakening and the Origional Star Fox.
They are truly some of the best games iv ever played, and its because im so cheap and couldn't afford much i got to enjoy them.
:p

For me I guess it depends. For example I'm just now playing through Penumbra and I got Mass Effect and Far Cry 2 - all of which are at least a couple years old if not more. Of those 3 (well, 5 since Penumbra is 3 games) the only one I'm not liking is Mass Effect. Oh yeah and I only played Crysis when I got my new PC back in April. And yes, it can handle Crysis. At Very High settings 1080p :D.

But as for console generations, I've mostly been with the times... sorta. NES, SNES, N64, NGC - I had them all during their popularity. I got a Wii at release and regretted it since lol. I didn't get a PS3 until Slim was released around a year ago, but overall...

For years I've been technically behind.
I have a computer that can't even run CoD2 on max graphics. I haven't been able to play new games for years.
But now ,it's about to change. I bought a sweet gaming PC and it's gonna arrive in about 11 hours or so. Yeah, I've got a lot of catching up to do.

I won't buy every game that comes out, otherwise I'd be broke and hungry. I'll buy something old every now and then just to see what I missed, or what I couldn't afford back then.

It's nice to hear the regular gamers opinion or view on this..

It's getting tiring to hear about kids who get every game they want instantly, and subsequently dont appreciate them as much.

I'm a first-day kinda guy.

I only played SOTC for the first time last year though. It made me sad but happy.
