Which Western made Godzilla movie did it "better"?

For me its 1998 because 1. I was kid when I First saw it, and owned the video tape of it and loved it, 2. The 2014 one dissipointed me because I was expecting that movie to be like Steven Speilberg's War of the Worlds. Heck the 1998 one felt more like that than 2014.

Also I really think everyone would have been kinder to the 1998 one if it had the classical Godzilla model and incorpotes his theme song in the movie's already orchestral soundtrack:

I was dissapointed by 2014 Godzilla too, i think it could be way shorter. It had an interesting beginning, a whole lot of bore in the middle, and a cool ending battle.
That being said, it's still better than 1998 Zilla, which is another cheesy SFX-over-substance Emmerich movie that i hate.

2014 without question. Even seeing it (1998) as a kid I was not into it.

2014 Godzilla didnt have enough Godzilla, 1998 Godzilla had too much people and no Godzilla.

Plus 2014 Godzilla makes me excited for future entries. When Godzilla was actually onscreen, it was awesome, and they intend on making the sequels be far more monster heavy. Its gonna get crazy quick.

Plus 2014 has -that- scene, which is awesome for a bunch of reasons. Another of which, rewatching it jus now, is it shows Godzilla's awareness. He isnt just some monster, he knows what hes doing.

That does not make a difference, Who and What they are does not matter, the point is that one had more screentime than the other.

If the 1998 movie had that same Godzilla as the big fat hulking lizard behemoth that fires lasers out of his mouth you'd be singing a different tune here.

If the 1998 one was good, yeah, Id be saying it was good, not bad. But it was bad. It had alot of screen time for a shitty version of Godzilla. That doesnt make it good. The new TMNT movies had plenty of screen time for its main characters, but they were awful, and I wish there was 0 screen time, aka no movie, rather than alot of shitty ruined versions of them.

My dream Godzilla movie is for it to basically be like the 2005 War of the Worlds movie, but replace the Tripods with Godzilla himself:

I'm a bit hazy on the '98 movie, but wasn't that when Ferris Bueller, Leon, Moe Szyslak and ... a girl teamed up to play a game of basketball against the 'Zilla Globetrotters?

Future entries to the new US Godzilla series intend to add tons of monsters.

The 1998 movie wasn't perfect, but at least it had characters. Characters with motivations, and personalities. Who develop.

2014 just had boring white soldier guy number 228848945. I couldn't tell you a thing about him, other then the utterly trite fact that he wants to protect his hot wife and kid. And he doesn't change as a person at all.

The obvious answer is Shin Godzilla.

Something is wrong when boring Soldier guy is more blander than Matthew Broderick.

Not going to lie here but the 2014 version sucked balls. Boring, dull, humans I couldn't care for and the monster fights that just CUT AWAY FROM!!!! Godzilla is about to start a badass fight and you cut away from it to show humans watching it on TV reacting to it and then on to the next scene? Bullshit!! I know thats down to Gareth Edwards because he did a similar thing in Monsters. Something is about to happen with the monsters and the militar... nope, show the guy and girl again, FUCK SAKES!!

1998 no matter how cheesy it was, it at least had fun and enjoyment to it and characters you kinda give a shit about. Hell, It was the 90s. Less blandness.

'14 was the better movie, but '98 atleast had some semblance of life to it, no matter how retarded that life might've come across.

They're both a pile of shit, but one has a little rainbow coming out of it.

But then I'm not big on Godzilla anyway.

It makes a huge difference. The main complaint about 2014 is "not enough Godzilla" because Godzilla in 2014 was AWWWWWWEEEESSSSSSOOOOOOMMMEEEE!!! Zilla is... meh. I too saw it when I was a kid, and I liked it enough to buy a big Zilla toy at the time, but it's still a shit movie. Kids have shit taste, you cannot judge anything by their standards.

Uh, no shit, because what you described is GODZILLA. THAT'S WHY NOBODY CALLS ZILLA GODZILLA.

Also: not much critical dissonance with either film, so...

I only saying 2014 cos Godzilla design was more faithful to the original and it did had a monster battle despite the shortscreen it had. Hey, I did cheer when he did used his atomic breath to finish off the female muto!

I was never keen that they protray the 2014 Godzilla to be passive aggressive (dive down to avoid hitting that ship and didn't fight back when the armg did shoot it). Yes I know Godzilla was friendly to the human in some of his film he was originally viewed as a major threat in his very first film!
