so everybody is getting shitty because they're putting new games up with regional pricing, as opposed to just not having those games at all?

if i'm incorrect in that statement, then please ignore this, but that doesn't sound like a problem at all. it isn't like they have a huge option, they can put the games out with this, or not at all. if people want to buy it at a slightly elevated price but safe in the knowledge that it is DRM free, then that's their decision, but GoG doing this over a select few games that otherwise wouldn't be available isn't going to affect all the games you already own of theirs.

as far as i am concerned, their 'big thing' is games that are DRM free, and are the most compatible versions of said games, and until that changes i haven't lost faith. they aren't abandoning the 'one price worldwide' idea, they just understand that they can't have it for every single game if they want to grow as a business.

in short, stop making a mountain out of a molehill, and be happy that somewhere is at least trying to sell games without DRM

Well I would prefer one flat price basically because I get better deals but I support GOG when I can because of their DRM free policy so as long as that is intact I will continue to support them especially if it means more games.

Compromise is part of growth in this industry.
As in, "compromise the other guy to gain a better bargaining position"? Cause, sometimes I feel, as customers, we should try that. With some help from well-intentioned online retailers, I guess.

I never recall the "One Price Worldwide" thing ever being a core principle, just one they preferred to keep going if they could.
yeah gotta say I've never heard this being part of the core beliefs at GoG, just something they've been able to have as a luxury thus far. DRM free has always been their main focus.

However, I don't see why you stop using their service all together rather than simply NOT buying those few games from them and buying the non region priced/drm free ones instead.

I'll be interested to see what games they are that are coming and which publisher signed off on it.

well now, fair enough, I didn't even realize GoG made commercials/videos, but they did specifically list in that first one fair prices being a core value...

I still say that if you don't like it, just simply don't buy those games, but I can at least understand where people are coming from now, I hadn't seen any advertising like this on their main site before (not that I linger on it daily or anything, but once a week I browse around.)

Didn't expect people to be this mad about this. At least you can get the game; they aren't doing any region locked games, so be thankful for that.

I live in the US, so this doesn't affect me at all, but from what I read, this only affects three games that aren't even on the website yet. If this is worth boycotting to you, then I suggest re-evaluating what you consider boycott worthy and double checking everything you buy to make sure that you aren't being hypocritical. For example, I stop buying from EA because I have been hurt too many times by wasted potential, and I now check every game I buy to make sure that it doesn't have an EA logo on it.

After the success of several titles on GoG, big publishers with the rights to classic games probably realized the real value of what they had; which means they're probably going to leverage it just like they do everything else. This is just a symptom of that.

I don't envy GoG's position, since that leverage threatens to slowly cut off every advantage they advertise.
If GoG gets desperate, well, User Entrapment is an enticing proposition, and it's one that the AAA Old Guard know how to make all too well.

(I'm not trying to just be cynical, but I'd be shitting rainbows right now if it meant that AAA were actually averse to sacrificing their reputation and consumer trust just to turn a quick buck. *cough*SimCity, Diablo 3, Dungeon Keeper, Aliens: Colonial Marines*cough*)

If this becomes a regular thing, well, people will at least have a real reason to ***** for once.
Advertising one thing and not providing it is the best way to lose trust.

And an update

http://www.gog.com/news/letter_from_the_md_about_regional_pricing

Though my feelings haven't changed losing a core value is losing a core value so then saying that you will be sure to back up your other core values realy means nothing to me.

and spiting on my face with region pricing feels just like it did before so yeah , no thanks.

tl;dr on the official post:

Classic game availability will only keep tightening and they want to keep expanding and popularizing DRM-free.

Publishers have agreements with retailers to not undercut them digitally around release and GOG needs to abide or can't do business.

They'll try to work out some offers to make it up to EU/UK/AUS users. (for TW2 it was difference in store credit + free game, but I doubt it will be this good for non-CDP games)

Since they dominate the classic digital market they can insist on fair pricing there. Eventually the new games will also end up in that category. Their goals are:

$5.99 classics - 3.49 GBP, 4.49 EUR, 199 RUB, $6.49 AUD
$9.99 classics - 5.99 GBP, 7.49 EUR, 349 RUB, $10.99 AUD

Those are the crucial bits.
