I've played quite a few games this yeah that have been good, but nothing that's absolutely outstanding. Still, Skyrim is probably the best of the bunch so far (though admittedly my Skyrim experience has been tarnish by this new Nvidia engine not working for longer than 30 mins in game before crashing my PC). I've always been fond of Assassin's Creed so hopefully Revelations will put up a better show.

EDIT: Actually, come to think of it, I had a lot of fun with Human Revelation, so maybe that instead of Skyrim

If we're talking about an actual award it will most likely go to MW3 due to its sales numbers, or Skyward Sword because it is apparently a very good Zelda game.

IMPO of the games I've played it should be Portal 2 or Skyrim.

Dragon Age 2.

I expected Skyrim or Uncharted 3 to be the better game but so far it hasn't happened. Still need to spend plenty of time with Skyrim though before I can judge the overall experience.

Haven't played Skyward Sword or Arkham City yet. I'm expecting both of them to be better than DA2, but I'll have to wait for the end of the month before I find out.

I'll have to go with Portal 2. Never been a big fan of the TES games, and most of (I said most of, looking forward to skyward sword) the games on that list didn't really appeal to me after playing them.

What about Saints Row the 3rd? Not that I think it will when very many GOTY's, but it might get some love.

I'll be honest, I haven't played Skyrim, so maybe that invalidates my personal choice, but I want Deus Ex: Human Revolution to win the title.

By the way, OP, you forgot to mention Assassin's Creed: Revelations. (It was actually delivered to me yesterday, and I've been happily playing it since; it's another great instalment to the franchise, but in the end I still like DX:HR better.)

Skyrim will probably win the most GOTY awards. The Witcher 2 and Deus Ex HR probably deserve it more though. Also maybe Battlefield 3; I've heard good things about it but have not played it yet because I don't want to use origin.

All the major publications will choose either MW3 or Skyrim. Some of the more Nintendo loving places will choose Skyward Sword.

My own personal game of the year is Dark Souls followed by Deus Ex Human Revolution

Is anyone else suprised that Skyrim has more votes than all the others combined now?

Bethesda may as well be called "RPG GOTY Factory Inc" at this point.

I'm predicting Skyrim just because of the insane amount of over hype is has. For me, however, the best game of the year was Rage. The GOTY awards are all a joke anyway. There are only about 6 different games for 95% of the awards, and 5 of those were released in the last quarter of the year.

Best Tech: LA Noire (category inevitably added for LA Noire alone)
And yet it wasn't impressive at all. I think Rage would take that category for the megatextures (and since it was released more recently).

It is Batman, but Uncharted's gonna steal some of the credit, depending on which site or w/e you happen upon.

edit: voted after commenting; looks very interesting till now, though Skyrim has the advantage of just being released...

I kind of find myself hoping Skyrim doesn't win overall. Call me nitpicky or snobby, but I think we need to stop taking poor NPC animation out of the equation when it comes to critiquing games for this, and Skyrim's NPC AI and animation really got on my nerves. I'm really hoping Portal 2 takes it all. Valve's attention to detail and design really deserves to be recognized more. Of all the games I've played, theirs have consistently held my attention with the minimal amount of flow-breaking instances caused by poor animation or AI.

With how monolithic Bethesda is and how much money they threw at Skyrim, having NPCs standing stock-still with their arms to their side whether they're just standing there or having an argument is just sloppy. Square Enix started doing this ages ago with their NPCs, and Valve has damn near turned it into an art. We can do better than that, because we have done better than that.

Also, while I'm here, I'd like to point out how much I hate the acronym GOTY. It reminds me of goatse, which makes me imagine some sort of weird fetish game.

WHERE'S BATTLEFIELD 3?????

I kid... Though I'm only about 8 hours in, I'm leaning towards Skyrim at the moment. It's fantastic. I'm not an Elder Scrolls fanboy at all, but it fixes almost all the problems I had with Oblivion and Morrowind. I'm realllllllly excited about Skyward Sword, but obviously haven't played it yet, and I may or may not get to play it this year.

Looking back, it wasn't a very good year for games :(

I'm personally predicting Skyrim for most GOTYs this year, but I honestly believe that Portal 2 will get at least a few.
It's just like last year, really. There were a bunch of great games coming out ad already released, but then Red Dead came out and curb-stomped the shit out of everything, snagging most GOTYs in the process.

Now that I've actually played The Old Republic, I'd say that it certainly deserves to be in the running. I couldn't care less who actually claims the title, though; when there's so many deserving candidates, gamers win regardless.
agreed on this surprisingly.

i went in with semi low expectations onto the beta and i had so much damn fun, the only problem the "beta" (beta as in the game isn't done nor is what i played a representation of the full game.) had with my computer was some lag/frame rate, otherwise looked amazing and played great.

OT: for a universal GOTY, i would say maybe skyrim..

but for individual ones

adventure/action: batman AC
TPS: Uncharted 3
FPS: MW3 (probably)
platformer: skyward sword
RPG: Witcher 2/Deus Ex (this one is too hard to pick, but if i'm giving skyrim overall i had to give witcher 2 or deus ex this one.)

I don't know! Its so difficult to say! I loved all these games (except Skyward Sword which was good but since I've played so many Zelda games its just lost a bit of the appeal)! I;m going to go with Uncharted 3 just because I never even saw half the game but I'm sure it was amazing. Hell, I don't even own a PS3 for crying out loud! So you better have been amazing Uncharted 3...or else. I guess if I had to pick a game that I've played enough to fully know what it is, I would go with L.A. Noire. As much of a useless sandbox it was, it was fun, emotional, and very entertaining. Here's hoping the best game wins!
